Best is debatable, but it does not explain the success of MTV..

Maybe Robert and Bonzo used the same fridge and they don't have their cucumbers labelled with their names?
Seriously, there's a rumour going on that Robert Plant used to wrap a cucumber in tinfoil before putting it in his pants before each concert. Why use tinfoil? My guess is so that the cucumber stays put. I guess Bonzo doesn't care for tinfoil?

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I don't think it was me. Scroprions is a different league for me. Zep is a classic rock legend that sounds awful, something like Queen, or Rolling Stones. Scorpions, I didn't listen much, "Winds of Change" huh? I always though it's a kind of musical joke, like ABBA or Boney M, things you listen for laughs and are good fun even if it's crap musically.Hink wrote: Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:57 pmmaybe I'm thinking about the wrong person because this is a memory from many years ago but as I recall you have similar feelings toward the scorpions no?Zombie Queen wrote: Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:51 pm Beatles were special. I am not going to weigh in on which of these two bands were better. They have too little in common for this to make sense.
But I do think that two things can be said fairly definitely:
1.The Beatles were much better singers than Plant.
2. Bonham was a much better drummer than Ringo.
Everything else is a matter of preference.

No. Ringo was perfect for the beatles. Bonzo would have been a bad choice for their collective sound.

Perhaps, but that doesn't mean
he was very good.

He played to the songs. Phil Collins, no slouch on the drums, has said that he didn't know if he could've come up with the fills in 'A Day in the Life.' All of Zep were technically better musicians, but that doesn't really count for too much in my book, if the songwriting is there.

Like I said, the rest is a matter of taste. If you like the Beatles more than Led Zeppelin, Ringo's drumming is just fine. And if you prefer Led Zeppelin, Plant's singing is just fine.
But the quality of the Beatles' vocal recordings was remarkable, and the
same is true for Bonham's drum recordings. Both set standards, and could arguably be said to have created new ones.
This assertion is completely separate from any judgement concerning which band was better.

I don't know. I too think Ringo was (considering him a retired drummer) actually really good. He had good timing and he didn't require to have been allowed drum solos in every other song, which is a great treat in a drummer.

I wouldn't go as far as "not any good". But, I don't like Robert Plant's alleged singing. Bonzo was a great, great drummer and JPJ was a great song writer/arranger. But, against the Beatles? The Beatles were vastly more influential in pretty much every aspect of modern music and music production for the next 20 to 30 years. Their writing style is still text book stuff.BONES wrote: Wed Feb 13, 2019 11:45 pmMine too.Zombie Queen wrote: Wed Feb 13, 2019 6:51 pm Beatles were special. Led Zep is not even any good in my book. I probably actually like more LZ songs the Beatles songs. But the Beatles were better and more creative writers and producers by a mile.

Also, LZ isn't really that original ... the heavy blues based stuff was rampant at the time. I'm not saying they don't have an original sound, but the structure/format and content was very pedestrian. What the beatles were doing starting around Revolver simply didn't have a comparison that I'm aware of. They were sailing their own pop ship.
