T2 near? Sonar 4, (SX3 movie with Tracktions piano roll)!

 Hairless chest...!

I can understand that point of view, and I miss 'the old days' of constant updates and Jules being an active part of the forum, too; however-- I didn't buy Tracktion 'for' Jules any more than people buy Cubase for Karl (or whoever). Most sequencers you don't even KNOW who the original programmer is, it's just the product of a faceless company; however, they're still good sequencers.

I bought Tracktion not for its 'magic' (though I understand what you mean, and it was fun to share in the excitement) but because it had (and still has) the features I personally need and want. I'm looking forward to T2 for only 1 or 2 features, but I could get by without it. I understand if as people grow they find that they can't do without certain things, but that hasn't happened for me.

Maybe I'm just content because the urge to participate on the bleeding edge is being met by EnergyXT. ;)

Well, you can actually run them through the free DX to VST wrapper that you can get from the vbaudio site. That's what I've done with things like the Sonitus delay. Seems to work fine ...

You see, Tracktion has lost its magic for me. I know it has been said time and time agian how much we miss Jules and his paticipation in this forum. I was an evangalist for Tracktion. Lance
I see your point but Trackion is still the fastest way to a professional result for me and is an inspirational environment to work in 8) .I still use it but mainly for audio work along side Live 3. I might start a project in Live 3 (audio tricks, stretching warping...)and finish it off in Tracktion (arranging and mastering).

Jules is, I am sure past the 50% mark with the development of Tracktion 2.I personally think it is almost, if not completely finished and Mackie want to make sure that Tracktion 2 is not released at the same time as the two heavyweights SX3 and Sonar4 which makes sense.

I would be very surprised if Tracktion 2 did not surface by March next year.

Jules was talking about a Tracktion 2 release coming out in about 4 - 6 months *from* November 2002!So he already had T2 in mind for an April 2003 release!Even then he was talking about a big feature list and has said that the advantage that Tracktion has over the competition is that it started off with a good design concept and that he can keep adding features until it competes with the other sequencers! Music to my ears! :violin:

Some examples of features added to compete with other packages out there...

1.Tracktion had a full freeze (FX and VSTi)before Logic, Cubase and Sonar so it even led the way there!

2.Tracktion has 32 bit export which Sonar 3 does not have and I am yet to see this feature in Sonar 4's spec list.

3.Cd track import / ripping appears in Cubase not in Sonar 3.

4. In track editing or track level Piano Roll. As Kagemusha pointed out Digital performer and Protools already have this feature. As the video I posted shows, SX3 has only just had this included! Sonar4 does not even have this feature.

These are just 4 examples of how Jules has kept up and at times led the competition as far as key features are concerned. Impressive stuff. :o

Jules has said that he can easilykeep adding features until Tracktion competes with other packages Traction V.1 clearly shows this. I expect V.2 to be a very big surprise or maybe not a surprise as based on his past remarks I expect Jules to add features that allow Tracktion to compete with other packages out there, he has done it before. 8)

So considering whats already out there expecially with recent releases, I am certainly looking forward to T2!

Jules can sit down and take his time to have a look at the new releases and decide wether or not to add similar features to Tracktion 2. Now that Steinberg and Cakewalk have released their main offerings Jules can, as he stated easily add features to Tracktion so that it competes feature wise but at a lower price.

I don't think we will see surround and video in T2 (very unlikely in my opinion)but then again... 8)

Tracktion v.1 came out in the second half of 2002 about 2 years ago.So I think T2 is very near and I would love to beta test it! I wonder if Jules will either have a public beta, like Live 4 (far greater input but maybe too much for one developer to manage) or maybe a beta open to exisitng Tracktion users.

I love the look of Tracktion, apparently Jules background is in high end video and graphics and it shows.

...or maybe it's their ex-users they're paying attention to.

No way I'm going back to cubase, even if it does catch up to Tracktion one day.

christianmusicmaker,

I absolutely don't get your point. You are jumping over from one forum to another, telling which program borrowed from which program. Why are you doing this?

Don't you see how illogical your statements are?

You are telling how Cubase borrowed the in-track midi editor from Tracktion. As other posters said: look at protools.
Even if it would be the thruth, so what? You can hardly find a program these days that is not borrowing ideas from others.

Just a few words about your loved Sonar4:

Nearly anything they put in could be told as borrowed from Cubase and Logic. Sonar is the last sequencer in the world (compared with the big ones) that became an audio metronome, and it is the last one that gets the ability to do surround, mute tool, folder track and freeze! Sonar didn't invent this, it borrowed it and put it in under a big pressure from its users.

Cubase gives you with the in-track editor just another, different ability to make an edit. That's what I like on cubase. You can choose how you want to do something and what supports best your workflow. For example: you can change values by typing, scrolling with your mouse scroll or by dragging with the mouse pointer up and down. Sonar doesn't even comes near to that.
BTW, Cakewalk didn't touch the midi editing since Sonar 1 or even earlier. There is no improvement, nothing new, zero improvement (with the exception of midi loops but this is not an editing feature). It seems to me that Cakewalk acts more like firemen. They put in features most users think that it was about time.

To your "bugs problem with cubase":

Every program has bugs and besides that pleas learn one thing:

It is not always a fault of a program if something doesn't work on your computer as expected.
Don't blame Cubase for this. I have/had similar problems with Sonar3 and as you can read on the Cakewalk forum others also have problems with Sonar. It doesn't mean that Sonar is badly programmed.
Different people have different experiences. Some have a rocksolid installation and some often experience chrases.

Above all, this is the tracktion forum. What does it have to do with Sonar?

:D

I just think it was absurd that previous Sonar versions didnt have a built in metronome! Took em 3 versions . (Yes I know it had that midi metronome thing but its not built in and its not the same or as easy so please dont even try to defend it  ;) )

But overall from what I've read I'm super impressed with the S4 update.
