He couldn't find steady work in America.

Kind of strange in retrospect.

Me too. Doesn't seem to be true at all.

See, Johnny can do it when he puts his mind to it.

He's certainly not alone though, lots of acts first made it outside of their own country. In Hendrix's case he had Chas Chandler pushing to get him a record deal and made him the frontman of a band, whereas in the US Hendrix had followed a career as a sideman.

This is so cruel in so many ways... we'd need a couple of subforums of HPC to discuss it.

Still, the population density of the USA is 10 times greater than that of Australia, so it's still relatively crowded.

The obvious answer to the original question is that Americans are just krap at anything worthwhile. They can't even elect proper people to run the joint.

You know, there are a lot of bad things in America, is true, but not all Americans are what you say they are, as any country in the world there are cultural problems and corruption in history.

What's wrong with you BONES? it seems that you need more love and peace in your heart.

I know - I visited Perth many years ago, and was surprised at how isolated it is from other cities. To my knowledge, pretty much all of the populated areas of Australia are coastal, yet there are areas of coastline that go on for hundreds of miles without seeing any civilization. I also drove through the Nulabor and saw that famous sign "Next gas station 100km" (or whatever the number on it is).

songs/poetry/novels/recipes.
Yep, definitely the shitty weather has something to do with it.
and that also explains why a disproportionate number of trully great UK bands come from Scotland :D

On the brighter side, none of us has to have you for a neighbor, so there's that.

What are you talking about, I didn't vote for Trump or Schwarzenegger or Reagan? More to the point, I think it's pretty obvious that Australia also punches well above its weight when it comes to successful songwriters.

Are you sure? If you live on the coast, it could happen and you wouldn't know about it until it was too late.
