Yeah that makes sense.
I would allow it though, you could make a video or in case its an Eurorack setup redo the patch in VCV rack...
I would like to see Vurt participating...
I could always share the deepmind patch bank! and upload raw stems.
That said, DM doesnt have a sine wave, so probably not the best choice for this. I thought about bitwig Polysynth, but that doesn;t either.
Dune is the one i would feel most comfortable with at this point.
But something is telling me to use one of the spectral synths (europa/Thorn)

I prefer the sound of Dune, but spectral synthesis (to me at least) is the most interesting creation/advancement in recent years.

The only thing i am gutted about so far is that i cannot use my mixbuss plugs!!
Also if it is DAW plugs only, i might have to go back to Ableton for this!

No you can't sample the synth for creative/consistency purposes.
The only thing you're allowed to do is freeze/bounce the whole track/lane to save CPU.

Recording 10 snares and then picking the best one and playing it back as an individual sample is not allowed.
Recording a bass sound and slicing up the sample is not allowed either.

David, you can use many of your DAW plugins - just be careful about the modulating ones. You CAN use any 3rd party FREE plugins as well, but again, being careful about the modulating ones (e.g. heavy chorus and distortion, bit crushing!). The whole essence of the OSC is to make a track using sounds made exclusively by a single synth as announced each month - but this time it's up to you what synth you use.

As noted in the above post, you cannot make e.g. a single kick and export that waveform and then cut and paste into a track. You MUST only export/freeze whole tracks - so e.g. you must export/freeze the whole kick track - usually to help save cpu! Same goes for any track. If you end up with e.g. an inconsistent kick sound (due to oddities in the synth), then you are stuck with it. All part of the challenge.

Hope this makes some sort of sense.

I am thinking about using ANA2. It uses samples for noise generation and comes with quite a few different sorts of noise samples in-built. Does that mean that I cannot use it for noise generation?

Using the built-in noise samples for ANA2 and Serum etc. is fine.
It's against 'the spirit of OSC' to load a crash cymbal in as a noise sample

Hope that clears it up.

Yeah it does, thanks for replying.

I'm a long time lurker, just now being able to post something for the first time. Just a quick one while I have the time:
https://soundcloud.com/user-851734095/b ... ka-osc-121

All sounds generated using 15 instances of U-He Bazille.
Most programs created by me from scratch and some inspired and/or modified from non-commercial programs created by others.

DAW: Bitwig-Studio/Linux

All processing done using the built in Bazille plugin effects and the following built in Bitwig plugins: Peak Limiter, Dynamics, Distortion (minimally), Reverb, EQ-2, EQ-5 and Delay-2.

Those of you who haven't chosen a synth yet, Krakli Plugs (of Arminator fame and so many others) expressed some interest in getting people to consider his synths on his Facebook group. http://www.krakliplugins.com/Plugins.aspx.

Cool. Will check it out.

Happy Birthiversary, OSC! You've aged well!

I'm using Serum and I'm trying to get a passable strummy guitar going. If anyone has any advise, that'd be great! I'm currently using the Moog waveforms (pulse) with some slight FM and BlueArp set to light speed for some strum, but I'm stuck at more of an autoharp sound. :/

Just a touch of EQ and a tickle of compression

Here's a snippet to give an idea of my guitaroharp...starting to wear me down!

Try volume changes with down- and upstrokes so you get accents. This will make it more realistic instantly.

For guitar sounds I'm so hooked on Comb Filter based sounds, because they behave so much like strings, it's almost painful for me to even hear straight synthesis to get this to sound right. However, most important is really the way they're "played". You have these octave jumps, which throw off the perception. If you would split those between two different kind of approaches to make a guitar so that it sounds like 2 guitars, too, possibly separate them in stereo placement a bit, too, and play them so that it makes sense, this could be pretty cool. But your snippet sounds already quite chaotic, hehe. Fun to hear early stages.
I've chosen to finally give ModulAir a fair shake, because I love this thing. It can be a bit taxing on the CPU, though, but still... anyway, the comb stuff makes it incredible for all things strings and I'm playing with this sort of stuff myself right now. :phones:

I definitely considered ModulAir, for a couple reasons. If I hadn't already wanted to work with AnaMark, I totally would have used ModulAir. Glad to see I'm not the only one with a slight obsession over it.
And with the 1.0.0 update :wheee: it has so many cool features!

In other news, I've got an idea that's questionably legal- If I can get around to making it happen I'll put a demonstration of it here asking for some opinions. If it doesn't happen now, it will in some later month.
Lots of rules questions with this competition, but I'm glad that we have some regulation to it.

Thanks for the tips ThePresent and Taron, I'll give those a go!

@Taron, I don't think I've ever used a comb filter, so this will be an experience. When you use them for this,do you generally just set and forget or do they get modulated (env, lfo, key, vel....) Serum has some weird filters, too bad there is no Martin Guitar Body Res Filter :D
