New video demonstrating MuLab 8's audio sequences. MuLab 8 is more than time stretching.

Post

Pretty cool, :hihi:

It seems that all the time stretching is applied to samples in RAM, is this correct? Nondestructive unless you save it?

In other words, an Audio Stream has to be converted to an Audio Sequence to be manipulated?

Real nice mutools!
Stuck in Aperture Laboratories for a 2nd time!

All correct.

2. Likewise - but might be tougher to implement, I'd like to select a number of parts (on one track) and set a collective name for them. So, if I have Drums(1), Drums(2) etc and then explode my track so I now just name it Snare, I should be able to select all my parts on the track and name them Snare(1), Snare(2) etc. (The same goes for colouring, but I think that can be done today.)
3. I'd also like to be able to hide the (1)'s after each sequence name. They make my songs look ugly :D and I feel it annoys me when I move parts around and I suddenly end up with Drums(68), Drums(9) etc. So, a Preferences option saying "Hide part name numbers".
1. Set new part name as track name. Slightly improved the grammar. Hope you don't mind.
3. +1

Ok i see what you mean. Even for small height notes there still is 1 pixel off perfectly squared like in M7. Fixed that in the next version. I've also slightly increased the minimum height at which subtle rounding starts. See the next M8.0.47.
Thank you for this, MuTools. It looks great!

Lovely piano roll Jo, nice and crisp. With the "piano lane contrast" setting (in preferences) in tandem with a selectable clip colour, along with the selectable background colour... it is very customizable. It should really be the industry standard. Other DAWs can take lessons here, as I think it is basically in it's own league.

Honestly, this approach should be the industry standard.

Also, the time stretching does sound quite good, and flows holistically through the program. The creative options are staggering, really cool stuff.

Congrats on the new video. I agree with Grizzelda: the creative options are staggering! MuLab's such a unique product.

Great video! As always!

I always stated I didn't need time stretching. But I never realised it's uses. I just thought it was for matching loops to a tempo.

Fantastic work Jo, thank you :)

Is there a way to change the Audio loop used in a track?

For example, I have a track using an external loop recorded previously from hardware. The current loop doesn't sound right in MuLab for some reason so I have another version exported from Muzys3 which I want to use as replacement for the current sampled loop. The only way I see of doing this is to create a new track with the new sample, then create all the sequences in the composer to replicate the previous track and finally delete the original track and it's content. Surely there's an easier way?

Right clicking the Track header should, imho, give an option to select an alternate sample for that track.

The auto opening of context menu subitems is great, but it really needs an auto closing, cos when I'm hovering to find the main entry all sorts of submenus open that are unwanted causing confusion as to the location I'm currently in and where I need to go to find what I want.

Can't you change the behaviour so it's just like a traditional menu? So when a submenu opens, it opens in a separate menu to the right of the main menu and disappears on leaving this main entry.

Thanks

Post

Please give a concrete example of where the auto open sub-menu causes confusion.

Post

Er everywhere with long menus. But my specific situation reoccurs when I try to add let's say, FX to a Rack. This opens the context list of devices to add. I look for where I want to go, forgetting the mouse is hovering as I'm looking, and it just opens all sorts of random submenu stuff whilst looking for what I want. A few times during this, I've had to reorient myself within the menu structure, locating which folder has been opened and where that folder is located.

Sorry if my explanation isn't too great.

Post

Most portable app menus use this way of browsing their menu structure. Hover over main item, subfolder opens separately to the right generally and disappears or updates to show a newly highlighted main menu subitem.

Just a thought, but may improve peoples usage of MuLab somewhat.
