Robert Planet is in that category for me. Last week, I listened to a LZ comp I had made on iTunes a while back. My fave songs from I to Physical Graffiti. At around 40 minutes, I couldn't take anymore. I enjoy listening to Page, Bonham, and Jones, but Planet kills it for me. I'd rather listen to Heart cover their stuff.

But what do you feel Robert Plant?

I definitely prefer him in lower registers. The higher, wailing shit can eff off. I hate AC/DC vocals for the same reason

Bonnie Tyler was on the radio earlier, promoting her 17th album & 50 years in the biz tour. Her live performance was shocking. She sounded like a bad Rod Stewart impersonator singing heavy metal.

Paul Buchanan of the Blue Nile could sing the tory party manifesto and I'd probably still like it.

Never seen the fascination with Wacko Jacko (even before all the paedo stuff). Never sounds like he's singing actual words - that sort of bizzle should be left to the Cocteau Twins.

This is probably a bit unpopular, but anyway, here goes; Dave Gilmour's my favourite singer. But I listen to a lot of skate punk too. That genre's full of voices that probably aren't "good", but they make up for it with character.

And when it's from a movie (or in this case two) that you mostly enjoyed, there are even more considerations.

She's in the "stay in the background" category for me. The caprine quality of her voice does not lend itself for lead vocals, but does help to fill out the background rather nicely.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

So basically her voice hasn't changed after all these years?

1. Corey Taylor
1. Devin Townsend
1. Ross Jennings
My solo projects:

One singer that falls into both categories for me, depending on the song, is Naomi Saalfield from Hiatus Kaiyote. Really talented bunch, but sometimes I feel like her presence is a bit overwhelming on the album, especially considering how awesome the rest of the band is. So I alternate between enchantment and STFU over the course of the album. A lot of those vocal flourishes are magical, though.

I've been really enjoying the vocals of Sasami and Tirzah ...
