the greatest software instrument ever made is too expensive at $500?

This is one of the key features of Camel Audio / Apple Alchemy and it's very powerful. It's indeed bizarre that the arp in Omnisphere can't be used as a mod source.

I dont think justify is a right word you used. Because price is just for whar you get wich meaning Omnisphere is not too expensive.

Probably what you mean despite the fact that it looks like a grearest instrument ever made for you:

1. There is not enough reasons to get Omni yourself as you are happy with what you have.
2. You just cant afford it.

:-)

^ seriously, who cares about semantics relating to the word 'justify'?

In other news, how is the world fair if I read about this release con the way into work?

(it's a rhetorical question, no need for anyone to analyse it)

It may well be too expensive for some people, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth 500 bucks, it just means not everyone has that money available....

The problem is there is only 1 lane of 32 step modulation (unlike say Zone where you can have unlimited lanes) so if it was added (arp source to note or filter or cut off etc) it could only go to one place or have the same pattern to multiple sources...all better than nothing, but it will be dry limited compaired to best in class (like Zone) and Eric doesnt seem to work that way! Maybe 2.7, but right now there is more than enough new stuff to play with (and check out zone if you want to see step sequencer to modulation source done right....better than Alchemy’s!)

I still prefer Alchemy by a country mile :D
These days normally anyway most DAWs (should) offer similar options for every automation parameter. Falcon f.e. can have unlimited of everything as well as unlimited layers to modulate modulators etc.
Parameter locks (polyphonic) per step would be nice for sure.
Back to topic...great FREE update as usual and i like the added arp features, especially in combination with the Keyscape soundsources.
However, the presets needs a lot tweaking since almost all are a bit machine gun like.
My favorite arp is still the one which comes with Logic (for live play and in terms of GUI) but Omnisphere 2.6 is again a step forward for free. Nothing to complain really for me.
Before i would get more arp features i would love more polyphonic LFOs and MSEGs since just one of them can be poly.

Like several other companies' installers, Spectrasonics installs aaxplugin files on Windows without asking. I'm about to delete the whole lot. Any reason to keep these alive on Windows?

The choice is not so clear cut if you ae on a PC :( I lost my Alchemy key in a HD crash and unfortunately hadn't backed it up (or the installer) so am now limited to the 'player' (which is only 32 bit) for all my (many!) soundpaks...so Alchemy is a bit of a sore point for me! (I still have all my packs in case one day someone makes an instrument that plays them one day- I can dream!)

Its worth keping an eye on Zone, its new and its being improved slowly, but it has great pottential in the context of sequencer modulation as was being discussed...

Back to Omni - Yes, you can't complain about free...it is now a very competent arp/step sequencer with rachet and fun tools like I used to like on Tremor etc...it can be used as be a beast of a drum machine!!

MS20iC owners - I finally figured to look at the manual! On the MS20 page are all the specifics of what is implemented - https://support.spectrasonics.net/manua ... rg-ms-20ic . Far from complete, but there's a good lot of options there.

But it's only a rompler!!1

Nah, just had a quick play with the D-50 patches, and it's amazing how good and playable they are! Only complaint so far, which seems to plague many software instruments nowadays: the default volume of many patches is just too loud. Not a difficult issue to fix, but if I have Omnisphere on a channel at unity gain, open a patch, and play a single note, I expect not to go anywhere near 0 dB. Many patches shoot right over it, with just a single note playing. Also, the first thing I noticed is that the (alphabetically) first D-50 patch has one extra space in the name, which is probably not intentional, and it is driving me crazy! Yeah, me and my problems...

Post

Captain, you're not alone with that rogue space in the patch name. I was relieved to hear John Powell say in an interview that he obsesses about punctuation and caps in his naming otherwise when he's composing it will distract him so much he'll go crazy....

And yes, the volume is kinda crazy, always have to turn it down. Many patches distort wildly.
