I am using Windows 10 with Omnisphere 2.6.

I was using the standalone version of 2.6 and if I just try to use the Default patch with the sawtooth, I can play some notes on my keyboard and I hear that patch.
When I enable the arp, then I can't get any notes to play, ...no audio.
Turn off the arp, same issue.
Then I try to close out of Omni but it won't respond, it's basically frozen.

Ctrl-Alt-Del to the rescue.

EDIT:

I went through that 3 times, having to close out with Ctrl-Alt-Del every time...then I tried a 4th time and there was no problem. How weird.
I saw that with the 2.5 update; Spectrasonics support suggested I reinstall from scratch, which fixed it. I haven't noticed it yet with 2.6.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN !!! Can't wait !!!

Slight correction: It only seems to be the 2.6 patches loading slower. Other patches seem normal.

A reboot solved my HW integration woes. As others have commented 2.6 has also speeded up the UI for some Mac users.

General Omni comment: man, if you need a plugin instrument for bass, Omni really pumps it out. Not sure if it's all hyper eq'ed or something but really sounds good.

Great update!

That sound is not there at low velocities on the OS version.
I agree, I've listened to a few demos on YouTube and hear what you're saying. The "square-wavy" feel does add extra presence to the sound and I wish it was there in a variant. I tried to add it with another layer but couln't get the same vibe. Maybe I'll try again during the next playthrough session I have.
Feel free to call me Brian.

No i meant justify and expensive in relation to my own situation as an amateur producer and the view point of every purchase being an investment.
If you look at every vst purchase as an investment, which it is, then there is no justification or rationale if you will, to purchase a $500 synth without any way or plans to get a return on the investment.
That is compounded by my workflow being one that takes loops and mangled them which is why i like Omni so much because it comes loaded with a ton of sound design that is in my style. But i still rather roll my own but still admire and look at Omni as the gold standard for those sort of sounds.

I dont think justify is a right word you used. Because price is just for whar you get wich meaning Omnisphere is not too expensive.

Probably what you mean despite the fact that it looks like a grearest instrument ever made for you:

1. There is not enough reasons to get Omni yourself as you are happy with what you have.
2. You just cant afford it.

Reading about the patch browsing lag, I'm wondering how people are finding the performance of the new 2.6 version compares with version 1.x?

I recently upgraded to 2.5 from version 1 and have been really disappointed by the slowness. As others report above, there's UI lag when loading patches that simply did not exist in version 1. Frankly the whole thing just seems pretty bloated compared with v1! (I've a bunch of points on that note I've been discussing with their support - can post here later if anyone's interested).

So I'm wondering if there's any improvement at all on 2.6 v 2.5... or should I consider going back to version 1.5?! Would love to get the thoughts from people on Windows specifically. I'm on Win 7 but I don't imagine there would be too much of a difference between 7 and 10?

Cheers

Actually I'm not finding much difference with the sample content patches, or patches from V1, it's mainly the wavetable patches from the newer updates and the hardware profile patches that seem rather slow loading. It's not great, but I definitely would't go back to V1 because of it. Never.

Thanks for the info. That's interesting - I just find patch browsing generally a fair bit slower. Problem is if you're just going through the patches, it's not clear which gen each is unless you really dig in. Shouldn't really have to think about this stuff. There's slow, then there's the UI and audio not keeping up with each other, which is the problem being reported. Tbh I'm a bit shocked that Spectrasonics think it's ok!

Are you on Windows?

You can separate by version. In the browser, right click on one the tags and choose version.

Post

Yeah... but you shouldn't have to filter by version to filter the lag, right?

Post

I mean... unless you've never used a Kontakt library before, then of course this is slow but changing patches flies compared to the crap I have to deal with in Kontakt. So it doesn't bother me.

Post

I've also never used version 1 so I don't know how fast it is in comparison.

Post

2.6 is great, getting lots of use with the new Arp.

Post

Tip, if any of the arp patches don’t sync (glass chains) turn off the weird lfo to arp length mod.
