I wonder if we'll hear anything about Sumu this year, that really would be the best Christmas Present!

Madrona Labs have 30% off until Jan 10th, also there's a little update on Sumu:
"Stay tuned for more news very soon on the additive/FM instrument, Sumu, and on a little tidbit of a thing that's coming out first."
Wonder what the other thing Randy is hinting at is :O

The only synth release that gets me excited!
Guess its finally time for me to grab Kaivo, and just upgrade my i5 2500K to something slightly more modern.

I was lucky to get Kaivo second hand. I've been looking to get Aalto. It's on sale now. I haven't been able to get it 2nd hand due to timing when the few have come up for sale since the last official sale. So i'll probably get Aalto at least. Madrona synths were not immediately satisfying to me. For me they are an aquired taste but now that I see the value in their sound, they are some of my favourties. And I like they are resizable and support MPE as I use a Seaboard. If they dont resonate with you immediately, give them some time going through the factory presets. and try your own programming - its surpisingly easy to fast to get results..jon wrote: Fri Dec 28, 2018 8:07 am The only synth release that gets me excited!

Yeah I've been using Aalto for years now and it's a core synth in my palette. There is a more than a little overlap with Blocks (where I prefer similar complex oscillator patches), but the interface is just so inspiring and working with a limited structure synth feels liberating at times compared to the unlimited possibilities of Blocks. And Aalto tends to sound fantastic every time.
I love the sounds from Kaivo, but my CPU struggles a bit with it. My computer is due for an update anyway, It must be over 6 years old now!

Aalto is a brilliant synthesizer that is both easy to get working with yet also rewards deep exploration. That is a good indication of quality design: good results come easily, amazing and unexpected results come with time and practice.

AAlto is great ,but the comp. osc is a bit underwhelmed
I prefer the reaktor dwg block (modelled on the make noise DPO osc) which has additional timbral controls like waveshape/wavefold etc.. for the combined output

DWG is my favourite VST oscillator, but it's definitely not a model of DPO. It's inspired, just like the DPO, by the Buchla 259 Complex Waveform Generator, the original oscillator of this type. Only the shape knob is lifted from Make Noise. (Source: one of the NI devs who made DWG).gentleclockdivider wrote: Fri Dec 28, 2018 5:52 pm AAlto is great ,but the comp. osc is a bit underwhelmed

Aalto has a basic waveshaper in the osc btw. Furthermore it's a polysynth, and wavefolding per voice doesn't sound terribly useful imo.

Is the dev here on board? Would love to know what the state of this thing is. In this big jungle of vsts, sumu is the only one which makes me curious! Any chance to get rough estimate when there is something solid to show, eg: gui, Sound examples, earliest expected release (year/quarter)....

I wonder if he'll be at superbooth. That would be a kind of natural announcement date...
