SampleTank 4 on the way

Small ST4 bug noted in its ST3 Edit screen. Env 1 Attack shows a range from very fast to 60 seconds (if memory serves - I'm not at my DAW). The actual maximum attack time is closer to 2 seconds or less.
Anyone else care to confirm they're seeing the same thing?

Well I was going to digress into single-client vs multi-client MIDI drivers, until you mentioned that other standalone instruments can see the MIDI input.dmbaer wrote: Sun Mar 31, 2019 8:20 pm Is anyone else experiencing a problem getting MIDI input recognized in the standalone but seeing no problems when hosted? The UI virtual keyboard plays notes just fine, but MIDI data sent from my MIDI KB is not recognized.
I could swear this problem did not exist the first time I launched ST4, but it's been present ever since. The hosted version works just fine (in Cubase at least, but not apparently in Blue Cat Patchwork).
I also am seeing the same behavior in ST3. Although it's been ages since I ran that one standalone, this was never a problem before.
And, by the way, no other virtual instrument that has a standalone version is showing this behavior, so it's not due to a problem in my MIDI rig.
I will log an incident with IKM support, but I'm waiting for the next maintenance release to see if that by any chance fixes this.
On the off chance that you are using a MIDI input without multi-client drivers, and another application has grabbed them (has them locked), have you tried rebooting and loading ST4 first?

Yes, I should have mentioned that this behavior happens in a freshly-booted system with nothing having been executed first and nothing else running. That was the first thing I tried.zzz00m wrote: Sun Mar 31, 2019 8:38 pm Well I was going to digress into single-client vs multi-client MIDI drivers, until you mentioned that other standalone instruments can see the MIDI input.

Well that is really strange! I can even leave my keyboard powered off and start ST4 standalone first. It will not see any keyboard initially, but as soon as I turn it on, it becomes available in ST4 "Settings > MIDI Input". Just select it there, and all is good. This input setting is not available in the plugin version, so you may want to review your settings there when using it standalone.dmbaer wrote: Mon Apr 01, 2019 8:47 pmYes, I should have mentioned that this behavior happens in a freshly-booted system with nothing having been executed first and nothing else running. If all else fails, I would open a support ticket with IK.

I'm waiting for the next maintenance release which is supposed to drop any day now. If that fixes this problem, then great. If not, it's support ticket time.

Can someone tell me please if I have the approximate amount of disk allocated to a ST4 Max install? I put it on a different drive from ST3 content (and Syntronik content), so ST4 is all in one place and it's only ST4.
I installed to a directory called E:\Sample Tank 4 Sounds. Without direction from me (I'm pretty sure) I also got some content installed to E:\Sample Tank 4 Sound Content. The former is 152 GB and the latter is 66 GB, or a total of about 220GB. That seems to be in the ballpark of what was stated as the disk amount needed. My ST3 content location was removed from the ST4 configuration parameters. I only have that pointing to E:\Sample Tank 4 Sounds. So, when running ST4, I should be seeing nothing of ST3 legacy content (and indeed, there's no Syntronik content to be seen, so that part is behaving as expected).
I am only seeing a subset of the expected content in the instrument browser. I have all the Mir. Phil. instruments, for example. But the only organ instruments I have are several pipe organ instruments. I have yet to see anything I can load come up in the ST4 edit page. It all goes to the ST3 edit page. Also, as I said in an earlier post, the ST4 icon in the top left column has a down-arrow image, meaning it cannot be found. So, I've got 220 GB of sounds and that doesn't get me the main body of content?
This frankly has turned into a profoundly frustrating experience. I have probably spent close to 8 hours so far doing all the steps required for an install of Max. I will accept a few bugs and instabilities for a new product. But I feel like an early beta tester. I didn't see anything in the way of sound installation instructions. Did I miss that?

Another sound/samples bug to report. At least it's not correct here, but my installation is so f-ed up that maybe no else will see this.
The Cathedral Organ 4 and Cathedral Organ 5 instruments sound identical to me. The Bass Pedals Only organ instrument is completely silent.
It would be great if somebody else could confirm that they are or are not seeing this on their install.

Unless I missed an online update.
I haven't used yet as my standalone will still not start.

I believe that the preferred approach is to install all ST4 content into a single path, such as for example "SampleTank 4", "SampleTank 4 Content", or SampleTank 4 Sounds", but not using more than one path.dmbaer wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 12:03 am Can someone tell me please if I have the approximate amount of disk allocated to a ST4 Max install? In addition, all SampleTank 3, Miroslav, and Syntronik content should all be installed into a common ST3 path, separate from the ST4 path, such as "SampleTank 3" or "SampleTank 3 Content".

The best reference for what sounds you should have in what version would be the lists available on the SampleTank 4 Sounds page or directly below:

Thanks, Peter. I will review the installation manual. Maybe I thought once I had the software authorized I needed no further reading of the documentation. Serious "mea culpa" if the answers were there all along. I will check out the Groove 3 videos again as well, although I did watch the entire series before I tried downloading the software and content.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 5:39 pm

I had all my ST3 content installed as you suggest (including Syntronik), and I not only installed ST4 content in a different path, I installed it on a different drive.zzz00m wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 1:36 am I believe that the preferred approach is to install all ST4 content into a single path, such as for example "SampleTank 4", "SampleTank 4 Content", or SampleTank 4 Sounds", but not using more than one path.

As to installing all ST4 under a common directory, that's what I thought I did. However given that there were something like 90 files to download, unzip and process, there was ample opportunity for error, no doubt. I will keep digging, and thanks for your response.

The presets (instruments) I mentioned have the names I gave (Cathedral Organ 4, etc.). One thing I noticed is that ST3 has Cathedral Organ 1 thru 3, but not 4 and 5. ST4 has 1 thru 5. I don't believe ST3 has Bass Pedals Only either, but I wasn't looking too closely at that one.dandezebra wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 1:07 amI am not seeing these presets...Post a pic of the presets or at least put the exact names?dmbaer wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2019 12:06 am Another sound/samples bug to report. Hmmmmmmmm. Weirder and weirder...
Here is my search results in ST4 Max (everything!) off of the USB install with the 1.3 Library Update for cathedral.
Am I missing something?

If I select just the ST4 MAX library and search on "cathedral", I get zero results.
I get a lot of hits for "cathedral" from ST3 and Miroslav CE, if I search without selecting a specific library.
Cathedral Organ 1-5 are in my Miro library.
Modena Cathedral Organ 1-3 and a few others are in my ST3 library.
