Hello Uhe guy,
what will be the difference ? only the preset that are include in DZ ?

Post

Nope, Zebra 3 is going to be mostly completely different. Even patches won't be fully compatible with Z2.

Post

So if i buy Z2 now it will be a different synth of DZ ? I mean it will have the same filter / OSC /..... ?

Dark Zebra is a set of presets for the included ZebraHZ, which is an extended (backwards-compatible superset) version of Zebra2, ie ZebraHZ is Zebra2 with extras.

Zebra2 = the original Zebra2.
ZebraHZ = extended version of Zebra2 that is included with the Dark Zebra soundset expansion for Zebra2.
Zebra3 = will be an entirely different product from Zebra2 and ZebraHZ; different features, different functionality, different patches.

Grüß dich lieber Urs,

just only for idiotproof clarification purpose.
In my case I own both PlugIns, Zebra2 and ZebraHZ.
According to your Information, there is no practical reason to install Zebra2 additionally to ZebraHZ?
(aside the missing installation of Zebra2 factory Presets, who I manage it anyway manually)
So I can just replace my Zebra2 with ZebraHZ and expect anyway "100% Zebra2 compatibility" and the same “Preset Replay” and “Sound Behaviour”?
Summary (In this scenario): Zebra2 (or it installation) are completely unnecessary, even when I use Zebra2 Soundsets?

Will this mean that 2(DZ) and 3 will be different instruments and as such can be used in parallel, each having its own character ? Will the major technical differences prevent loading all patches made for 2(DZ) into 3 ?

The same can be asked concerning Hive2. More than an update, a different instrument ?

Cheers/tschüß

Yes Z3 is going to be a separate plugin installed in parallel, with no patch compatibility to Z2.

Hive 2 is the opposite. Overwrites previous version and is patch compatible.

This is a very bad news for people who have bought a lot of Zebra2 Commercial Soundsets, isn't it?
I spent several hundred Euros for lot of really nice Zebra2 Soundsets.
With release of Zebra3 I really hope u-he don’t stop the “life cycle” of Zebra2.
Or is there some possibility planned to convert Zebra2 Soundsets in to Zebra3?

No, it's not, because Zebra 2 will continue working side by side along with Zebra 3. It won't stop existing when Z3 comes out - that was never the plan.

I also have a good number of Z2 soundsets. I wanted to ask that question so that at least a proper mindset can be had regarding Z3: a different instrument on its own, which also means that eventually a new library of sound sets will have to be bought. Z3 will be like buying a totally new synth.

And so, is there any upgrade path considered at the moment ?

That said, it will not be a surprise that sound set designers will work with Z3. Won't also be a surprise that Z2 could attain a stand still in more or less a near term regarding sound set development. Z3 will certainly offer even more creative possibilities for designers, so every one will be attracted to it.

OTOH, no more duality "regular Zebra" sound set and "Dark Edition" version of the same sound set.

When HZ was released this was definitely the case, though Zebra (the 'normal' version) has had quite a few updates since then so I'd personally keep them both: Zebra HZ for any presets using the Diva filters, and the latest Zebra for everything else
