Thank you for the update :tu:

Hi, 8.0.60 crashes for me on OSX high sierra. It opens up to the open project menu but when clicking on new, it crashes.

Thanks

Confirmed M8.0.60 is unstable on MacOS.
M8.0.61 will fix that and will be available asap.

No prob, I reverted to 0.59 so it's all good!

Thank you!

M8.0.61 is available in http://www.mutools.com/mulab/m8/

What's changed:
  • Fixed a serious crash bug in MuLab 8.0.60 for MacOS.
  • Several improvements wrt. the new coloring method.
How to update:
Windows: Replace the current MuLab.exe and MuLab.ID by the new versions.
MacOS: Replace the current MuLab.app by the new version.

Post

I hope you guys like the new coloring method.
I think it's more intuitive and efficient than the previous way using context menu -> Choose Color.

Tip 1: If you want to use a preset color then you don't have to click it first and then drag drop the "new color", you can also directly drop colors from the preset colors palette to a part, rack, sample event.

Tip 2: You can also drop a part or rack on the color picker "New" color and then drop it from there to another part, that way you can copy colors from one part to another.

Tip 3: Dropping a color on a selection of parts / sample events will color all selecteds.

Thanks for Tip 3; I was just about to ask for it as a FR. :tu:

Jo,

I'm very happy you are working on the UI too, and not just TS and similar features.

While you're at it: could you please add a new option for MUX?

We have Copy colors and we have Copy size. I'd love to have Copy colors and size. It would save me a lot of elbow and shoulder ache!

...even better would actually be:

Edit Properties
Add Component
Copy Size
Copy Colors
Copy Colors and Size
Copy Colors, Size and X Position
Copy Colors, Size and Y Position

It looks like A LOT of options, I know  but when I have fifteen identical knobs, this would really help.

One reason why this would help so much is that we cannot multi-select in the MUX editor window. Therefore it's not possible to assign certain values to many objects at once. I understand that do multi-select must be much harder than to add these options to the contextual menu.

As shown above, I've removed Copy Position. I don't think there is a reason for copying a position otherwise than when there are several objects of the same type. Taking away that option shortens the list somewhat. Same goes basically for Optimize Size.

For what it's worth I second s123's thoughts re the rack graphics. In my opinion, the changes are small but for the better, and hopefully it's just a matter of moving things a few pixels, as s123 showed. One thing he touched upon was the width of the fader background graphics. I noticed when making the Equilibrium MUX that the fader can be narrower but not wider than the graphics background. This is a shame, since they look much more professional (again in my opinion) with a wider fader than background. Not sure this is easy to fix however.

And when I'm at it: Three things that I have noticed when working on Equilibrium but that might have to wait:

1. I'd love a log/linear option for knobs etc. In Equilibrium I use horizontal sliders for the Q setting. Since the Q setting goes from 0.000 (or so) to 40, the default setting (1) is not in the middle. It would of course be preferable, both for a slider and a knob if the default setting is placed in the middle. (Note that if the default setting is Linear, this feature would be backwards compatible.)

2. ...and I know this is an oldie, but it'd be great to have double-click to go back to the default setting. :)

3. Whenever a textbox is added we get a one-pixel gray border framing the textbox. If this could be removed (or just made transparent, or colored, maybe as an option) it would be very helpful. For now, we cannot put, say, white text on a black background if the underlying background color is also black. Indeed we get this ugly gray border around it. Other controls make it, but not the textboxes (see attached img).

Of course I understand all of this might have to wait! :)

On a completely unrelated note, ever since since M7.4.6 when you introduced the modular connections snapping to the nearest available connection, this functionality has been absent from the MuDrum pads and racks.

A tiny issue I know, but is this on your radar? Would be good for consistency.

@ Sparky, if you add a constant modulator (unattached) to the same meta parameter as your Q, then use the constant mods knob as your front panel control instead of the filter Q Knob, you can get your setting in the middle.

Wow, thanks for the tip! It's of course a workaround, but it should do it to an extent in my current MUX. Though I assume it's still not using a log setting for the values, so it would be linear on both sides but on different scales. As I wrote, it's just something I mentioned for future implementation, not a dealbreaker or a current bug or so.

Thanks Sparky :tu:
I'm not quite so sure about the Rack slot on/off buttons being enlarged though. What do you guys think?
I think it's mainly the Rack collapse/expand and the on/off buttons.
2. ...it'd be great to have double-click to go back to the default setting. :)
Definitely a +1 from me for this! I so wish this could be a priority as it is tedious when editing to keep retracing steps and putting stuff back where it was when a little twiddle isn't desirable!

Thank you Jo, for the major colour editing improvements! ;) It's much easier.
Though I wondered how to access it at first! It wasn't where I expected it to be.
As a little side note, you may want to remove words like Show and Edit from some menu items.
For example, Edit preferences, this is pretty much standard in every app just called Settings, Options, Preferences. Never have I seen Edit beforehand and it really is not required. Imagine if every WinStartMenu item had Open before it!!! It's just not necessary to do so.

It creates a lag in your workflow as there is more text to read. Show Colour Picker is another. Show is not required. We know that clicking Colour Picker opens the said window.

Overall, thanks for the update :tu:

Hi Jo, liking the new colour picker idea, is there a way to reset the palettes to the default colours ?
