BX_oberhausen sounds good but not better than the Arturia SEM2 to my ears. Any differences that tilt to BX_oberhausen's favour (some additional controls and more presence ) are secondary to the lower quality interface and subpar presets (until you lock out the efx) in the BX. The BX has more options for mod sources such as setting the curve and modulation of controls that are absent in the Arturia which is nice but it isn't the difference that makes enough difference OR maybe the presets aren't exploiting the superior mod matrix. I like that BX includes a reverb in the efx rack but they could use a couple of different algorithms.I won't be buying it even on sale. The Arturia gives me the sound I want in a nicer interface and superior presets for jumping off points for my needs. Competition is good though so perhaps will see some enhancement in the SEM 2 if Arturia and its customers feel a response is needed.

This synth needs a very attractive introductory price of eg. 99€ and a regular price of 150€. IMO this synth is not good enough that people will pay the unrealistic high prices on Dirk Ulrichs wishlist.

I find it sounds really good. But i must agree that the price tag is beyond what i would pay.
It really is nice and i really like it but i think i have better options and that for half the price.
I would not pay over €100 (including VAT) here.

Played with the demo a bit yesterday. Sound quality was good but not as good as I was hoping, or maybe the presets were a bit lacking overall (although a few really impressed me). Would like it if they did away with the unnecessarily clunky 3-stage envelopes and added a few more modulation envelopes/LFO's.

Would buy this without hesitation at $50. At $75 would consider it. Anything more and I'll give it a pass and continue to use the other great-sounding synths I already have.
A well-behaved signature.

At the current intro price I wont even bother to download the demo ... way too expensive IMHO. The full price is ridiculous.

<off topic>You're very much overestimating free will and understimating how much humans can be influenced (being a social animal).
How many people have you seen lately dressed like in the middle ages? But they all did in the middle ages wearing silly hats and skirts and now people don't.

You might enjoy a book in social psychology. It will be an eye opener

Was there an option to wear anything else in the Middle Ages?
Sure, instead of wearing a silly hat, you could wear ... no hat, like people do now.
But you are still limited to the fashions available during the time period.

Well, peasants didn't have much of a choice back then. As did noble men. Look where we are now.

Not that i think plugins can be compared to fashion. Even though i'm sure some buy plugins just for the fashion idea. Does that mean everyone does, or everyone has to do? Nah. And even a gazillion more social "experiments" won't change that. We're not all the same.

I always have to think of the football club, when i read Oberhausen, by the way. :)

Black <--> White
Nobody <--> Everybody

You 're missing all those grey zones.

Again, i wouldn't know why that is relevant when i'm not under the influence of a price scheme as for Oberhausen. Actually, it was you who claimed that more or less everybody is influence by socialisation. So much for black/white.

Agree with the general sentiment, a nice synth but not worth the price tag, considering Repro is in this range and Repro is twice the synth. After playing with presets I too found the sound a little on the harsh side, but I assume that is the SEM sound? It does have a unique timbre which I am sure could find some uses, particularly in the 'epic evil brassy saw' department, those are quite spectacular (see Huge Swells).

Um, Unison CPU is rather high.

I wish the unison had lower CPU use :?
