For now.
Should work... just put Cthulhu on a track and follow it with whatever instrument you want to use.

What wont work is recording the midi notes from it...
Nah, you can if you got a Mac:

I have no interest in such clumsy workarounds...

This is why I said originally all this can be done away with when we get proper internal Midi routing implemented. I also don't like these workarounds.

Old thread I know. Just in case someone stumbles across it like I did -

I figured you can just throw Cthulu into a Note FX Layer device before an Instrument/VST and you're away.

No need for a seperate Instrument layer. Meaning, you can save everything in a Preset or Clip.
Something that can't be readily done in other DAW's AFAIK?

If you want to save something into a single preset, this is the easiest way I know:

Load Cthulu and put any instrument into it´s Post FX Chain...
Now you can save Cthulu as a preset and it will load always like this... and this is definetely nothing you can do that easy in another DAW!!

Can the same be done with Scaler? I can't get it to work with VSTi as post-FX.

Thanks Trancit! Your suggestion works really well for Cthulhu. I wish it did for Scaler too.

Please keep in mind that putting the Instrument into the post fx chain is only necessary to be able to save everything in one Cthulu or Scaler preset...

The normal way of arranging Midi FX and Instrument would be one after the other, meaning you first insert the midi fx (Cthulu, Scaler, Bitwig Arpeggiator etc...etc...) and afterwards the instrument like Polysynth, Sylenth, Sampler whatever shall make the sound...
This way you just have to use an Instrument Chain container to be able to save a preset of both together...
Does this work with Scaler and your VSTi???

I put a bunch of midi FX and a NotePitchShifter at the end of the chain (I rename the NotePitchShifter to MidiFXsource), all inside a fxchain container... save as preset

then, put that chain first on a new instrument track, then put a NoteReceiver after it, selecting the NotePitchShifter as the source for it. Then place any synth or sampler or whatever after the note receiver

Return to “Bitwig”
