VSTi most like Virus C?

The Virus is pretty shit and plastic sounding. It’s got dark sounding oscs to hide aliasing artefacts. I’d take an AN1X, Nord Lead2 or JP8k over the Virus. Honestly many VSTs have since surpassed the Virus. Even something like WA Production Ascension can make Virus like sounds.

I have to say that in some respects Viper is even better than the Virus. And I'm not talking about the ability to load multiple instances in your project, which is fantastic, of course. But sonically it has the edge over the hardware in certain patches.

I'm looking for something to emulate that virus with the..... Is it a filter sweep? An example is this track at 2:02

And 2:37 here

Does the viper do this?

I am still regularly using the Virus and it remains one of the best synths available if you care
to spend some time and program it, last time I checked the sounds I made were not sh*t and plasticcy. It makes sounds some other synths do not seem to be able to. It is especially good at futuristic sounds and it surprises me every time I put it on. It can sound quite trashy, if you want that, it can be warm and smooth as well, it covers a lot of ground very well. I would not want to be without it personally.
I use plenty of VSTi but I still have 6 or 7 parts in a track I am working on now. And interestingly they are key sounds. For me it is still a stand out machine.
Viper whilst somewhat similar still sounds different than the Virus (warmer and smoother tone), not least because it does not emulate the full synthesis options, it misses the ability to make interesting metallic sounds other than some standard 2 op FM. The filters are smoother and technically better than the Virus. The problem with that is they don't sound quite like the Virus filters and like every synth finding sweet sounding areas is what it is all about, the places that tickle the ears in the way you want it to.
It might come down to just what you like to hear.
2.02 - that sounds like a detuned supersaw with a short volume envelope and yes a filter sweep. Possibly it may have a bit of noise mixed in as well. Filter sounds like a band pass given its ability to carve out some of the spectrum. Many synths should get reasonably close, but that is quite a characterful filter and may be tricky to get it set up perfect. It may possibly be the the interaction of 2 filters. Just have to get a synth with supersaw and see what one gets you there fastest. If I did not have Viper I would pull up Sunrizer first or something Roland JP-6000 esque, maybe Sylenth1. Anything with a Supersaw would be worth try. Getting the detuning right will be key to the feel of the sound then add a little short reverb 300-500ms decay or thereabouts. Automate pan.
Follow the start of this tutorial.. 00.34 is getting close ! Like every synth sound, its about careful listening and dialling the details that count. Don't move the controls faster than your ears can work.

Just curious, what does Viper miss exactly to make those metallic sounds?Synthman2000 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 8:31 am it misses the ability to make interesting metallic sounds other than some standard 2 op FM.

Sometimes I can be helpful.
I've wanted to create an old skool Hard House track for ages now. Might start one this weekend

I'm lucky enough to own a Alpha Juno 2 so never tried the plugin. Will give it a whirl tonight.

I've heard that redominator recreated the hoover sound well but the other presets don't sound like a Juno. Is this true?rob_lee wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 10:20 amGot it booted up now Mushy it's what he needsMushy Mushy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 10:08 amWeirdo & The Captain

I don't have the original Juno to compare but Mushy might. The software version sounds great to my ears and I'm always using it. The Hoover sound definitely sounds original to me however I can't speak for the rest of the presets in the software.

I think the "magic" in the sound comes with the resonant bandpass sweep. The sound itself shouldn't be too difficult to replicate. Couple of sawtooth's stacked on top of each other (not many). Some saturation maybe, and a cheap small room reverb (really sounds like one ).
