The quest for the grrman bass!

Here's my go amongst all the speak...
http://kim.greywolves.org/hardbass-muontau.mp3

It's a Muon tau with mild resonating highpass & mild distortion and then both bass & kick are fed through a compressor to create some pumping.

And the not-so-technical bit:
Square waves seem to do nicely for these kind of sounds. And, yes, I think the secret is in the legato playing, I have the sequence go F2-F3F1,F2-F3F1 with a carefully set portamento to make that jumping sound which is then made more evident by the fact that I have a compressor with a slow decay & fast release affecting the whole bass spectrum.

I tried also PolyIblit, but the filter envelope didn't work at all.

It seems that if you use a square wave, it might be worth trying to tweak the pulse width a bit off from the middle position.

And, listening to the examples you sent, the bass in the first examlple doesn't sound too much like a bass at all, to me it seems that the kick just has a hell of a long of a decay, and the "bass" is some kind of FM/AM-sound with not very much going on in the low end.

Judging my own try, doesn't sound SO much like the examples. Well... At least I tried ;)

not quite there taika

So Paul, what is that sound? It does sound very much like the ones in the sample. What synth / processing did you use to achieve this sound? And more importantly what was the technique behind it? I still say its a combination of the right filter mod and fuzz...

Who can give fxb or fxp preset for any VST???

What about Austrian bass?

There is nothing "hard" about these basslines. In fact, they sound rather girly to me. If you want to hear what I consider a hard bassline, listen to Hatred on our CD [or the shitty mp3 snippet on our site].

NEWS FLASH!!!

you dont need synth to make hardstyle bass..

old trick...

take bass drum..reverse it ..add some hard compression and distortion..voila

if result isn't flat enough add some distorted saws to boost it.

also you can add anything else to make your unique sound
- keep it hard !! -

Nah....none of those samples U guys sent R even close...Im trying my best still in my "homemade" studio with all those plugins...but so far...nothing....
keep workin....and less theory people !! :)
give us some straight tips..ok?
thx appreciate :)

Post

Okay, straight tip: FM synthesis is known for very percussive, tough basses. Maybe you should try in that direction...

Here are 2 multi-sample offbeat basses I´ve created several years ago (the trick is in layering various sounds and special processing afterwards, that´s why they are samples too). They are rather short in length, but should be what you are looking for:

Your only other option are the sounds and sample cds from http://www.vengeance-sound.de/eng/index ... ounds.html (which mark a "main resource" for german trance producers) with a focus on the sample cd "Vengeance Essential Clubsounds
Vol. 1":

"The variety of samples including lead sounds, drum & percussion samples, fx and even 303 acid sounds are clearly arranged in folders (bassdrums, claps, cymbals, FX, loops, offbeat bass, percussion, snares, sounds) and offer a creative up-to-date collection of samples, which will ensure that your production will be at the sound forefront of club and dance productions."

Hi,

sorry to bump a old thread, but if someone still wants to download the Soundfonts, I will keep on hosting them until the end of January.

thanks :) the tube bass is especially nice..

I imagine a longer version of that would work great for a drum 'n bass bassline too.. very nasty.
