Just a quick note to say I have re-done the timing on the drums to be a little more "human", but also not to lose the 1-2-3 waltz beat required!
Also took the crash down a little in the mix and brought it in from the side (was too far to the left!).
If you can, please dl/listen to the .wav file, so much better dynamics as I intended!
Available here if you want to listen, but not download!

Sounds much better and great playing as always! The crash sounds fantastic. Just a thought, but what if you decreased some of the pitch envelope on the kick and snare sidestick/rimshot (I think that's what you're going for there)? Make it less electro sounding?doctorbob wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 12:14 pm Just a quick note to say I have re-done the timing on the drums to be a little more "human", but also not to lose the 1-2-3 waltz beat required!

@TNS … thanks. I'll look into your suggestion - I was a little worried by the electronic drumkit sounds for the kick and snareset! I sort of thought, well, they are both the same, so maybe it'll be OK.
Not going for full realistic instruments this time ..

Hi y'all, in common with others … I too have updated my track - hopefully the "drums" are a better fit to the genre I think they sound better now ...
If you think the rimshot is too loud, let me know … before the deadline, of course!!! Listening after a couple of hours away (I always try to re-listen when ears have had a rest), it seems perhaps just a little loud and maybe could do with a little more reverb?
Can't do anything after Tuesday morning (30th) as I have my injection into my eyeball then, and it means I can't see properly for a few days! (As well as being uncomfortable and painful after the local has worn off!!!). Reminds me - must stock up again on paracetamol …
Anyway, as I said, SC and dropbox(see above!) updated - any quick changes to mix, then please please let this old codger know!

There is something quite disturbing about the thought of eyeball injections...ouch!doctorbob wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2019 3:30 pm Hi y'all, in common with others … I too have updated my track - hopefully the "drums" are a better fit to the genre I think they sound better now ...

I think the drums are a much better fit now. They still have an electro flair but much less obtrusive now.

Eyeshots are an annoyance, but essential if I want to keep seeing things! Can't look away as per usual when you have a shot, you just see it coming!
Anyway, rimshots down a little + TAL reverb 4, snare "rolls" improved I think, and even more electroperc feel removed (I think!).
Last chance saloon now for me with this track. Don't think I will do, or be able to do much more, hard to tweak things when you can't see what to tweak!!!

Here we gooo! This is my first OSC entry as well as my first KVR post, I think. With this piece, I experimented mashing together some basic EDM tendencies with an arcade shoot-em-up style composition. From here, I think I am interested to get into some chiptune; limitation seems to be my best source of inspiration so far. This whole process taught me a lot about what I should be focusing on in terms of song structure and sound design. Now it's time to dig into other Surge submissions and see what crazy stuff I didn't think of!
I used 33 instances of Surge. 9 of them are for reinforcement or double-tracking, though, so it's more like 24. All creative FX are from Surge's FX alone.
Channel FX used: 5x Fruity Limiter (2 for light comp on kick/snare and 3 for sidechain), 1x Fruity Parametric EQ2 for some gentle mix highpassing, 2x Maximus to beef up the drums and bass busses a little. I tried to keep it mostly barebones to maintain the feel of Surge.
