Is that figuratively the same as retrigger (Hive & Diva) or does it also introduce other variations in the sound because it's modelling hard sync.

It's not the same thing as retrigger, but it makes sure oscillators are in phase. However that means you cannot detune them. Repro models hardware synths that didn't have oscillator retrigger, so they are always freerunning.
