fmr wrote: Tue Apr 30, 2019 1:09 pm OK, here is a comparison of the flutes playing the Strawberry Fields Intro:

Mellotron V

M-Tron Pro

Note: Both sound quite good to me. I guess that the choice has to be made taking into consideration the added features of each one, since by the Mellotron sounds alone, both perform a great job.
They both sound nice to me. To my ears, the Mellotron sounds more muffled but also with less noise.
I didn't add any noise. Arturia recommends adding a background noise of around 0.3 for added realism.

@Stefken: I was about to post the same thing. A Mellotron emulation without artifacts just wouldn't sound right to me.

As I said, I didn't add the noise, but you can (and flutter too)... I simply don't like noise

I grew up with Public Enemy (Bring The Noise), so... make some noooise!

It's the lofi element that makes the Mellotron sound appealing to me.

Brothers gonna work it out :phones:

Will Arturia be offering an fx version of Synthi? That's a huge part of what a Synthi is good for IMO.
That's not in our short term plan but who knows :)
That's a shame, because it really would be a great fx processor. Spring reverb, great filter, ring mod, feedback, insane modulation options...
Yeah, fx which in order to start working, will need to be sent to him "note on" midi command first, nice workflow.

NkS compatible?.
NKS compatibility currently unavailable for Analog Lab, CZ V, Mellotron V, Synthi V and B-3 V2
Another good reason for me not to sweat the $200 price tag. I'm also only really interested in Analog Lab 4 and the updated B3. Hopefully they get around to NKSing these prior to a better upgrade discount.
The groove baby, the groove...

Does the Synthi process external audio? Haven't read whole thread, but I looked at the product page and a few online announcement blurbs and it wasn't clear.

That would suck. I understand that behavior for instruments, but if I had to send a midi note to an fx processor to activate it I would also never use it.

You get those without upgrading.

Heh i doubt that in fx instance will be different engine. (Due to this i doubt that fx version will be released at all. Well, only if will add switch feature to normal working state, to which weak hope too).

Yes can vouch for this as I updated both yesterday and I'm on V Collection 6.

Nope, don't like that...

fmr wrote: Tue Apr 30, 2019 1:26 pm I think we have more or less the same age, and unless you have played a "real" Mellotron before (which I never did), our experience has to be more or less the same. So, try to explain exactly what you hear. "Ghastly" is an adjective too strong for the effect to not be easily perceptible
I played a real one for a while in a band (our singer owned it)...

here's a Couple of perhaps not so obvious points about it:

1) it's hard to play... it reacts relatively slowly (really weirdly somehow - it's a bit like walking through ankle-deep mud) and you have to let go of the keys in a way that makes musical sense before the 7 or 8 seconds are over. This will have a profound influence on what you play with it and I'd say it is already half of its sound.

2) it doesn't sound amazing without added fx - what we hear on the records is rarely ever (if at all) its dry/pure sound.

Anyone remember VirtualCZ? It sounds so thin next to the new Arturia CZ V.
