Halion's World Instruments apparently rely heavily on effects, and the underlying samples aren't that great....
Strings and Brass also not great. Two good pianos with variable timbre, but they might not be great for MPE pitch bends and slides (maybe I could map timbre to the Seaboard's Slide though?).
Granular synths look good, but I already have Biotek 2 and Quanta. However Biotek 2 seemingly has no plans to implement MPE (despite having a button for it in the gui) and Quanta's MPE is barely usable because polyphony creates unwanted artifacts.
The wavetable synthesis seems nice, but I already got a great MPE wavetable synth in the Synthmaster sale last month....
Already got the most obviously appealing Cubase Pro features in Melodyne Studio and other third-party software. OTOH having tempo matching right in the DAW could be nicer. And I won't have to deal with third-party support refusing to try to help because they don't bother with Bitwig or Waveform. (FL Studio has kept saying they'll implement MPE but still all they've provided afaik is the limited MPE Through option.)
A bunch of different EQ's in Cubase, but no dynamic EQ?... Hm. Don't think I've seen any of their native devices in "best of" lists either.
The "comping" work-flow seems good for me---it's what I've already been doing manually for vocals and MPE instruments. Midi editing features could be useful for another major part of my work-flow, using midi from Orb Composer, Waveform, and Synfire. OTOH I find counterintuitive and cumbersome guis really aggravating and Cubase is supposed to be worse than Bitwig in this respect.

Yeah... This is what I am wondering, if it's not equal to the full license, then maybe the buyer needs to qualify their account for cross grade first? Anyway, I probably won't sell it anyway.Ou_Tis wrote: Wed May 08, 2019 12:14 amIf resold, would it only be a cross-grade license? Or once you apply the cross-grade, does it become identical to a regular license for re-sale?hhuang9611 wrote: Tue May 07, 2019 11:50 pm So if I bought cubase crossgrade, is it possible to sell it later if I for some reason don't need it anymore?
Seems like a cross-grade license would likely be harder to re-sell, particularly if this deal is well-advertised....
Many reasons. First of all, many of my friends use cubase and the last collab we did was a nightmare. Also, cubase has some unique features to complement live/reason. And yes, what I have currently are oranges and apples but I think it's a good thing right? So that each DAW can shine in a specific area. Also, I primarily do trance but I'm also exploring different styles and genres.kitekrazy wrote: Wed May 08, 2019 12:15 amWhy? The DAWs you have are like apples and oranges. For your type of music the workflow would be better in Live.hhuang9611 wrote: Tue May 07, 2019 6:55 pm I'm on the edge of buying cubase... Can someone give me a final push to get the current deal? (I have Live 10 and Reason 10)

You're fast!
I just added it as a new product. As soon as the site indexes the new information, it will be available for purchase:

Studio One was created by the same person who created Cubase SX and Nuendo, that's why they're such similar approaches and workflows. He's now working on something that will be very interesting for anyone doing orchestral music.mgw38 wrote: Tue May 07, 2019 7:44 pm It also strikes me that Live, Reason and Cubase are distinctively different in their approach.

I would suggest that you specify very clearly that the procuct is actually a COMPETITIVE upgrade
And also exactly WHAT does qualify ,.. and exactly WHAT is the hole procedure
As is right now its all a bit fuggy, and I would not push the button

I played around with almost all of the major DAWs. Studio One is an incredibly well rounded, highly stable DAW. I can see why many people are so passionate about it.Uncle E wrote: Wed May 08, 2019 3:42 amStudio One was created by the same person who created Cubase SX and Nuendo, that's why they're such similar approaches and workflows. I started making music when Live 9 came out and Live has remained the only DAW I feel emotionally attached to. Almost everything I do for fun I do in Live. Professionally I use Reaper and Nuendo. Reaper because my students can essentially use it for free. And Nuendo primarily for its VR workflow and Wwise integration.
My problem with Studio One is that it does not provide anything that would stand out for me in any meaningful way. I have this very odd habit of starting it up once in a while, just for the sake of getting the plugin scan updated, then ponder a bit about the beauty of the software, only to close it again so that I can start working in Live.

You mean Wolfgang Kundrus? Who is apparently working @ EastWest now. Would that be a plugin or again a DAW? E.g. how does that fit in the big picture. Would it be useful to purchase Cubase for it? Or are you not allowed to say anything?Uncle E wrote: Wed May 08, 2019 3:42 amStudio One was created by the same person who created Cubase SX and Nuendo, that's why they're such similar approaches and workflows. Does that Cubase competetive crossgrade require you to somehow forfeit your license. I know in terms of Logic it can't be done, it's tied to your apple account. So basically is it just a discount if you already own DAW X ?
One more question, If I own Cubase Pro, can I use the plugins that come with it in Logic ?

The competitive crossgrade is just a discount. They couldn't require you to forfeit the license even if they wanted to.mrj1nx wrote: Wed May 08, 2019 10:03 am Does that Cubase competetive crossgrade require you to somehow forfeit your license. Some yes, some no. I think you can use Padshop and Retrologue but noting else. Halion Sonic SE is free anyway.mrj1nx wrote: Wed May 08, 2019 10:03 am One more question, If I own Cubase Pro, can I use the plugins that come with it in Logic ?

Both Reason and Ableton will work as Slaves inside of Cubase. So you can use the instruments from there inside Cubase, but not necessarily the effects.hhuang9611 wrote: Wed May 08, 2019 1:59 amYeah...
