Just bought a licence after 6 years of being on the fence over it. I couldn’t pass it up with their ongoing sale. I’m definitely looking forward to using it ;)

Listening to presets on YT, not hearing really anything great.
You can shape the sound in many ways. As often with capable synths, the end result depends heavily on the choices you make, and the directions you take.

here's what Largo inspired me.(separate 'naked truth' audio clips, one instance per clip). Maybe some of them will inspire you.

World of L 1
World of L 2
World of L 3
World of L 4

( Note : The soundset itself can be bought somewhere on Waldorf site. I haven't checked if they discounted it, or not.)

Seems to work fine here. Are you sure you have Multi set to "Layer" on the left side of the keyboard section?

I totally forgot that i went through all this already... :D viewtopic.php?p=6324921#p6324921

If you happen to use Studio One, see if that works for you. It works fine here.

I’m not sure about this even at sale price. Largo is quite an old synth now it should be an even larger bargain. Waldorf are a bit like Korg in that they don’t regularly update their synths with new features. The only thing they do is bug fixes and compatibility updates. I’d only get this if it was sub 50 bucks at most.

Your loss. :P

TBH, i don't quite get the "old synth" argument. Old or not, like i mentioned in other threads, it's still a great synth, which IMO sounds better than most of the stuff which comes out nowadays too. Regarding the updates: It has seen some feature updates, the GUI isn't the same as in version 1.0 either. The last updates were end 2017, i think, with the removal of the eLicenser copy protection, and some bug fixing. They also added NKS support before that. I would say, it's one of the better maintained plugins.
Changes since V 1.7.3

- Fixed a bug that prevented browsing presets when a part different that 1 was used

Changes since V 1.7.2

- Fixed a bug that blocked mouse access to knobs inside dual controls (e.g. Ring Modulation)

Changes since V 1.7.1
- New activation screen.
- Minor fixes

Changes since V 1.7

- eLicenser copyright protection removed
- Implementation of new copyright protection
- Minor fixes

Changes since V 1.6

- Waldorf Largo is NKS-Ready and supports
Native Instruments Controllers
- Revision of Sound Content
- Minor fixes

Changes since V 1.5.5

- Support for 64 bit AU VST2 VST3 and AAX - Mac & Win
- Support for OSX Yosemite and Logic Pro X

Sometimes old is vintage, gold and revered, and sometimes it means osbolete and worthless.

In the end : It's probably only different POVs, and depends on wich synthesis God(s) one summons.

To me, a synthesizer that once sounded good will always sound good, and another one that sounded less appealing -again : for me- will probably never sound appealing, whatever the number of updates it gets. ( Though giving another chance to an instrument from times to times allows to remain open minded).

But that's me

If it's just about the price, you don't really need it.

Regarding old plugins: I tried Terratec Komplexer yesterday, after a long time of not using it. Meh, such a shame that it was discontinued. If Largo beats 90% of nowadays soft synths, sound wise, Komplexer beats 95%. :D

Yet another example that super clean, anti-aliased oscillators, and ZDF analog modelled filters are not everything. In fact, that high cut which is so often audible on older VA's, or soft synths (and probably also the aliasing) actually contributes to some kind of airy, vintage sound.

Largo sounds very similar to the Blofeld, which still costs $500. I'd argue it's superior to the Blofeld, and closer to the Q (polyphony etc.), which is in the 4-digit price range on the used market.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Post

In certain things it's superior (say effects, and some mod sources that Blofeld doesn't have), but Blofeld has the PPG filter mode, custom user wavetables, and sample playback...
