Well, if you also bought the upgrade from Platinum 5 to Platinum 6, then I have to say you got a hell of a lot more for your money when you upgraded from Plat 6 to 6 Pro. Anyway, Logic Pro IS a professional software, and people who it's targeted to are likely to plan and justify their investments better than some people here seem to.

And, had Apple given the upgrade free to people who bought Pro within the last two months (like I also think they should, don't get me wrong), we'd now have an equal amount of people pissed off because they bought a week before that. Seriously, if you could live that long without 6 Pro after it came out, then surely you don't need 7 now either? But whatever they do, there'll always be people pissed off and very vocal about it - just like there'll be people who are quietly happy, like I think some LAG 5 users are. At the very least there'll be a bunch of Windows users who think they're not equally (or worse) f***ed up the a** when someone stands up and says they're not happy with Apple's policies. Come on. I mean, OMG, call the police!! A company was trying to make money!!!!

Everytime there is an upgrade people bitch, why? just use the f**ckin sequencer you got. I would never upgrade a sequencer, it's the heart of your production. Get a version that's been updated a few times so that all or most bugs are fixed like sx 2.2 and use that. How the hell do you expect to have a stable daw when your always upgrading. Now the next big bitch is gonna be people complaining that logic 7 gives them crashes with this vst and that vst and this dsp card doesnt work with logic 7, or my projects dont load or bla bla bla! props to anyone making great tracks with logic 5.51 god bless you.

I'm with you. The company I used to work for, discreet, have a policy that anyone who purchases a product up to 6 weeks before the next version is announced will get the upgrade free. Sometimes that means almost 4 months of free upgrades. They do it both to keep sales ticking over and because its fair and they like to be seen as the good guys. They also compete with Apple in the visual effects and editing markets so I'd love to see how Apple treat Shake customers with regard to upgrades.

It's a sad day when 'we're just making money' is all the justification someone needs to excuse a company's behaviour. There have been LOTS of shady things done in this world in the name of making money, but they remain just that-- shady.

Obviously at some point in time there has to be a cutoff, but I think they chose the wrong time frame, approached their announcement and release policies with disregard to their customers (new and old), and ultimately if "A company was trying to make money!" is the excuse they have for this approach, then I for one don't think they're much of a company to do business with.

I've purchased from MANY companies before (and I'm not talking just computer-related), and trust me-- some of them place integrity and fair business practice ahead of making a quick buck, and even understand that integrity and fair business practice are more likely to provide them with a consistent and constant customer base.

Sounds too good to be true. I think, once a corp gets big enough, it becomes a system with a life of its own. Meaning, it will do everything to survive and it will see the rest of the world (and even it's employees) as a means to make money. No matter how self destructive in the long run. (No one cares about the long run. Companies that look 6 years ahead are scarce) Big corporations don't care about anything except their own survival, they at best pretend to.

So, I think one man's businesses are your best bet if you're looking for corporate sincerity. Apple, OTOH, had to go wrong.

it's wierd.. i originally went mac because it was my first instinct to not buy anything from Bill Gates stable

was intrigued when apple bought emagic.. thinking they would look after us in the long runs

i'm not so sure now

now i feel that apple is just as bad..

they are all as bad as each other..

actually i'm about to buy a new mac and my 1st ever pc.. at least i'll have a 2 sided bad penny then

It's a lot of money, for sure... But I do think this is one of the few upgrades I've seen lately, that is really worth it... But ultimately, I guess it's a matter of what you can afford...

Yup. Contrary to what the propaganda will have you believe. Its not Darth Vader VS. Luke. Its two Darth Vaders going at it.

yes .. its a lot of money.

but i stopped whining about these companies long ago, as they just do what they do. i earn my living with logic, and i am, to certain degree, a "nerd". so what do i do? i just buy it ..

wise or not .. i just do so. and i actually cant wait to have logic 7.

and all this mac/pc kindergarten .. why do pc users care about us mac users? do i care for what computer other people use? why should i? for what reason?

it´s redundant .. it would be the same as if i would care about the pants other people wear. and i see aboslutely no reason for this, and so shouldnt you .. :hihi:

ah, go on .. i have to admit that i find it amusing seeing people rant about this issue: from both sides. mac evangelists and mac-haters ..

Good plan Claire. That's what I would do if I was going pro. New Mac's a G5 I hope?

And I would second Putte's sentiments. I mean it's childish. Companies need to make money to survive and grow. Besieide...It's not like it's we're politics or religion....

Putte, you said it all, and said it well. Also the most honest reasoning for an upgrade that I've ever heard. When I upgrade my sequencer, it'll be exactly for the reason you mentioned, and anything else will be just false justification. ;) On the other hand, my upgrade is likely to be 1/10th of that cost; still, the reasoning will be the same.

Cheers!

Hmmm, I bet you're wearing a pair of jeans right now. Pfft, those jeans-wearers are all the same.

I think it would make the world a better place if only we cared more about each other's pants.

Like, if Hitler would have spoken to Churchill and said, "ICH LUSTE UEBER DIE AROMA IHRES DRECKIGES UNTERMENSCHHOSEN" and Churchill would have responded, slightly enamoured, "oh, you blonde beast you... I bet you have darling little swastika's all over those supermanly underpants of yours, haven't you?"
...and then Hitler would have lit Churchill's cigar and after all the unspeakable stuff they'd get drunk so after a little dance and maybe some karaoke, "peace in your time" would have been theirs!

I for one care a great deal for my collection of certified PJ Harvey worn nickers.

Good one Tepgcon! I now have an indelible image of Winnie and Adolf in a drunken sub-sartorial encounter. Weird but very funny.

Cheers Jah!
