....and the Dan Solaris Analogue Voltage Soundset. My oh my he knows how to make the Blofeld sing. And that's just the VA section of the synth :hihi:

Post

Also, Largo and Blofeld don't seem to sound the same. Or at least parameters aren't equally scaled. Like per-oscillator wave modulation is scaled differently in Largo vs Blofeld (same value yields different actual modulation amounts). Also Largo doesn't have all the drive curves that Blofeld has, which makes translating some patches from Blofeld impossible.

I've just tried converting one patch from that Don Solaris patch bank to Largo manually, parameter by parameter - they don't sound the same. FX in Largo have more parameters, so it's anyone's guess how those should be set up (say, particulary for chorus)...

Post

I would say Largo is already vastly superior because it's software. :)

256 voices, as many instances as your CPU allows, 4 layers, 6x voice unison... it was very difficult for me to program it as well, when Largo is so immediate with all the sound shaping controls more or less on one page. Ok, pointless discussion, the hardware guys will probably buy it alone because they're used to, or like the workflow, and the hands on. Which is fair enough.

Post

If it only had the features it's missing from the Blofeld ;)

Post

Sure, if you place importance on those features, then, Blofeld it is. :)

Does Blofeld do super saws and trance arps very well? I remember years back some on GS were recommending the Blofeld as a much cheaper alternative to the Virus TI.

Guessing Largo could never act as a software editor or patch librarian for Blofeld then. Shame, I've yet to find a decent editor for the Blofeld. To be fair considering the depth of features it's got I think they've done well with making it accessible with what's on the front panel, but there's times I wish I could see a bit more in one go!

There's monstrumFeld editor you could check out if you haven't already. I'm using Mystery Island Music's editor, which works pretty well once you figure out its idiosyncracies.

You know what I actually bought monstrumfeld some years back but unfortunately I'm still using the same 13 inch MacBook and the editor was unusable due to the fact I couldn't resize the gui! It was just too big for the screen and I couldn't even drag it around to access the scroll bars! Unless I was being a muppet and missing something obvious which is quite likely but it was too long ago to remember.

That mystery island one looks good, downloadable demo, does it handle ok? What are the idiosyncrasies?

Edit - the defect was traced to VST3 - I emailed Waldorf about it.

Ah.. i think get you now. Yeah, not possible to save individual parts, i guess.

Is that part of being multi-timbral, though? I always thought that multi-timbral synths do exactly that: Save one program, not invidual parts of the programs.

solved

Give this one a try: https://softknobs.com/docs/blofeld/

I've been using it since a couple knobs on my Blofeld keyboard went wonky. It works good for me.

Thanks to whoever made it. :hail:
