When I load a device that I had previously saved in MSF,there is no edit button.
I don't find a delete button either. What am I missing?

Post

The problem is probably that you saved the device without clicking on Editable in the Save device panel. The several current solutions are in here:

There are no solutions anymore, please always use normal presets and when ready save the device. Anyways for the next version the Editable flag should hopefully be enabled by default to avoid these problems. Anyways some info you need if you are up to making devices:

Thanks for the info. Bummer!
Second part of my question was about not finding a delete button.
Is deleting the device file in \appdata\... the only way?

I stumbled on a solution yesterday: Load a not-editable GPreset while in Edit Mode and it loads fine, with grid tabs open instead of EZ-Screen Tabs, even though the Edit button is still invisible. The first couple of presets in the Exchange folder work that way, anyway.

Holy moly! Good hack! :) Need to fix that one :)

You lost me on this. A GPreset, the Exchange folder?
And this has to do with a non-editable device (instrument) ?

Well, best to just ignore, as it'll be "fixed" soon, AND it only works if you're trying to open a downloaded (Exchanged) GlobalPreset that's not editable. EDIT: Also works (while it's still available) when you save a not editable device as a GPreset, either before or after creating the Device, missed this possibility before, sorry.

Otherwise, a not editable device, by definition, CAN'T be opened in Edit mode (edit: only its GPreset version can). But neither can any other Device, which by definition is only accessible via the Device Browser in Instrument Mode, but when editable, CAN be VIEWED and worked on by switching to Edit Mode with it already loaded as a Device.

When you "Exchange" a GPreset or a Device, you do this by clicking Submit at the bottom of the GPresets browser, which sends the current state of the plugin (a Device if it's been saved that way, or a GPreset if it hasn't—Note that you can create Devices without having also saved them as GPresets, and share stuff that hasn't been saved at all, AFAIK) to the where-ever Melda repository for shared MSF stuff, AND downloads to your plugin all the stuff others have so submitted, that you haven't already gotten from a previous submission, into a folder in the GPresets Browser called Online Exchange. So that's how one way you can have a Device that shows up in the GPresets Browser. The other is by saving it as GPreset. Either way, my workaround will work, til it stops working. Clear as mud, right? :tu:

Of course, I might have missed something or be confused myself…fwiw.

Thanks for the "clear as mud'" reply,David! :help:
I think you said that I can't do anything about the device I saved as non-editable. haha

Post

You can probably save it as GPreset when it's open in Instrument Mode; I could with a test file here. If so, you should be able to load it again while you're in Edit mode, with its Edit tabs available and the whole thing savable again as a new device, this time with EDITABLE hi-lit. Let us know if this works, even though this is supposed to be made not possible soon.

Dunno why I didn't see this option when I first replied—mud in eye, I guess. Please prove me right:)

Thanks for trying but I just don't get it.
How can I save the non-editable device as a preset?

Post

There's only one way no matter what else you're doing: Just open the Global Presets Browser when your Device/whatever is loaded and hit Add, give it a name and there ya go. The trick is, to then load something else that is editable, switch to Edit mode with that loaded, then from there, load your non-editable GPreset.

Now you're talking!!
My device,AddConvFreq,is now editable.
Thank you for the help,David. :tu:
