You know what would be amazing, linear interpolation between envelopes via scenes

Post

OH, assigning envelopes to scenes, you mean?! Like either telling an envelope which [A, B, C, D] it belongs to, or to assign an envelope to a scene. Something like that? Sounds a little nightmare like for the management, likely easier to add these types of envelopes, but then they can't be used to alter scene blending or so... why am I even thinking about this (NNNnnooooooo, got enough stuff to ponder over, lalalalala)

Still cool! 8-)

Post

So here is my submission, i finally gave up trying do to something that doesn´t sound like 80s, so i did an 80s Synth-Pop (is it synth-pop? I´m really bad with genres :? ) also tried to do a more "natural" sounding part at 1:35 by playing the synthbrass-solo completely by hand and not quantize it afterwards, so it is on purpose.

I used 19 instances of Qyooo, every track and FX listed below. Feel free to leave feedback with things i did wrong and what i did right. I want to improve, because i don´t really know a lot about music theory and mixing / mastering, i learned everything by trial and error, probably not the best way to learn that

The bass in doctorbob's entry is very reminiscent of the bass in "Cantina Band 2" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FVADOLRf54

Just a touch of EQ and a tickle of compression

Post

Just a quick heads up … I have uploaded a newer version of my track. Changes are: guitar pushed up a bit in the mix, decay and release on its patch dropped a little to keep the sustained note from muddying the mix. Re-worked lots of the violin notes with velocity (= timbre changes) and also some volume automation together with a few pitch bends on some of the lead-in and end notes of the phrases. All subtle stuff, but I believe it adds to the overall sound and feel. (… and TNS, *that* note is BACK!).

edit: for those visiting here, the track has been updated taking into account the valuable comment from Taron just below!

So, please re-enjoy.

Rob, I think, you should run your track through SPAN or some band analyzer to find out where it pushes too hard. I believe, the lower mids, somewhere between 400 and 600hz it really has vicious boost that makes it a bit painful to listen to at full volume. Seems a bit out of balance that way, you know. It's just a feeling. I would go through the individual tracks and see where the evil-doer lurks, possibly carefully do a bit of EQ cutting where they crunch up most.
Another trick I could imagine might work, but I don't know exactly in your case there, is to lower the volume of the harshest instruments (piano and violin (viola?)) and give them a cross delay, single offset bounce to the other side, filtered with a high pass above 600 or 700hz or more, possibly. It would give more clarity to them, while reducing the pain factor.

and the Sega continues......I'll stop soon haha
