source for the claim of OB-Xd being based on GPLv3 software?
https://github.com/2DaT/Obxd/blob/master/license.txt
just because they share a name doesn't mean it's the same software. do you have a source that specifically says that discoDSP OB-xd is based off this open-source project?

also, discoDSP may have obtained a license to use the source from the original author. for example, if you write a library/program that's GPLv3, i must release my software under GPLv3 if i made use of it, except if i contacted you and you gave me permission to use it under different license terms. the mere fact of something being distributed under GPLv3 doesn't mean every single usage of the code will be covered under GPLv3 - the code may have licensed under a different license from the author, this is allowed (in fact, that's how JUCE works).
I wasn't aware dual licensing was possible (e.g. GPLv3 + some form of proprietary/commercial license). In that case, it's probably OK, unless he went ahead and released it without 2DaT's permission.

Anyway seeking "revenge" on the company for shitty customer service by bringing up dubious licensing arrangements probably won't accomplish much (and there's a dedicated OB-Xd thread as well). However I do wonder whether bamboozling customers of their download/update links is compliant with the original licensing agreement for Bliss, Discovery etc....
Not that I'm going to bother checking. I just uninstalled Discovery Pro so I won't accidentally use it in a project and later find it needs a $29 update due to some OS/DAW update or whatever.

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

He has always been a terrible business person, and I don't think he has any new ideas for products either, so all he has left is this cloud. George joins a growing list of devs I will no longer support because of their terrible support.
True words.

Obviously hiring 3rd party coders which did some fixes he sell as paying updates in the past didn't worked out very well so he thought a cloud would do just fine to generate some money.

Great job! :tu:

that's settled then. no license violation.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

George also said he's post the iOS code in a few days, so while there's plenty to be unhappy about, I think we can take the licensing issues off the table.

I had purchased a rant subscription but it reached its EOL (End of Life) on the whim of the developer.

complaining about the new cloud service is one thing and quite understandable, but not a taking shots thread please

Hink, in all fairness, to charge money to download something that you already paid for is, if not illegal, certainly unethical. In all my hears of ever buying anything, this is the first time something like this has ever happened that I am aware of.

And I have no doubt if one were to check out the initial TOS of the purchase, this new policy would violate that TOS. It would certainly make an interesting legal case.

in all fairness you should have read what I wrote before responding, I said complaining about that was quite understandable...it's the attacks that are unwarranted...you know like calling him an ass
