So , I’ve been real busy with work and this release “beta” or whatever. Slipped by me.mu main question is does it have “full” MPE support? Most of my MPE synths don’t support release velocity, which is a major part of playing the seaboard. So if it just supports multichannel mode with pitch sliding and aftertouch I’d be pretty bummed out.

I’m guessing the answer is yes, but I’ll ask anyway, do all of the control parameters have a transform curve like in all the other Melda plugins? That is another feature that makes MPE much more flexible.

Aside from that this looks like maybe one of the coolest things going. I had an awesome time with the beta of Powersynth when it came out, but I never ended up buying it because I wanted MPE in a synth that powerful. If there’s still need for testing or sound design I’d love to get on that.

Anyway I doubt I’ll make it through the day without buying this, provided it has full release velocity support.

Hehe, everything should be supported really. All parameters with modulation have transformations + transformations of all mod sources you use in there :) (there's nothing more to transform really :D ). Velocity off is one of the mod sources, so yes there too ;)

Well damn. Unless this thing crashes my computer I’m gonna be all over it? Do you need demos or sound design?

Also on a slightly unrelated note, doe MTurbodelay have no “edit mode” like MTurboreverb does for instance. I though I was going to be able to build my own feedback networks and stuff, but I can’t figure out how to get inside there. I suppose this is all possible in mxxx, but it would be nice for it to be contained in the one interface.

Nice! I didn’t know it had an MPE mode! Now I have to look into that. This thing will pair nicely with my Rise.

It is awesome, zerocrossing.

I would love to request one thing if I could. As of now the release of an envelope cannot be modulated by the note off (on a side note this appears to be the case with aftertouch too). I’m not sure why this is but It would be much nicer if the release velocity was capable of modulation anything that normal velocity can. Also, it seems that once I’ve released a note, MPE stops working and then it gets grabbed by the pitchbend of other notes that are sounding. If the pitch could “lock” once the note off comes in it would make certain things playable which now sound awful. PS this may be user error as I’ve just started playing with MSF.

If it’s not something I have set incorrectly though, I would love to see release velocity able to at least modulate the release of envelopes, and a way to stop later PB data from bending notes which are in their release phase. If I have something set screwy in my settings and someone could point me in the right direction, I would very much appreciate that as well.

This is an amazing creation I must say. PM if you would like beta reports and or sound design.

Thanks

Thank you JJ!

Now that's bad about the envelope :o. The thing is, envelopes are sort of fixed at the moment you press a key, that's kind of the limitation of the sort of obscurely versatile envelopes we have there. I'm guessing you want to speed up the release time if you release the key quickly right? How about hacking it using a gate for example? No idea, I'll think about that, but it's a problem...

As for the pitch bend locking - could you be more specific? I mean perhaps you play so many notes that the controller starts sending on the same channel as the released note? I need to check that, never happened to me :))

I would definitely like to have the release controllable by the note off velocity. Would it be possible to have another mode (like how there is the percussive mode etc.) where the shape and times could be modulated on the fly?

I’m positive I’m not playing more than 15 notes to get back around to the same channel I started on. To make sure I wasn’t hearing things, I made sure to test with only two notes at a time. When I would release one note and continue sliding the pitch around on the second the first note would start sliding around too but offset by however many semitones.
The workaround for this I was talking about was to basically have a sample and hold that would trigger when a key was released and make the released note stop responding to any further pitchbend data. I’ve never had this issue with any other MPE synth either. I’ll test some more.

No worries about the pitch bend - already found it - if you had long enough release, the notes were still playing and following the pitchbend at that channel, ups :D.

As for note-off velocity release, no solution yet, but I'll think about it.

Awesome. Is there a direct beta download for MSF? I have the total bundle and I don't want to have to download the big installer Everytime there's something changed.

And, unless things have changed you will get the "big" installer, Most of the functionality (eg for all the plug-ins in the FX section) is in the kernel software so you will need that. You will aslo need all their presets, config files etc. You can decide which plug-ins you want to install in the installer. But that only affects which "front-ends" are installed.

I figured that's how it goes, but some companies that I beta test for have quicker ways to test builds. Thought maybe they had a new procedure.

Anyway, back to MPE in MSF ...

-- how do we use it?
-- are the 7 MPE messages (Pressure ... Note Off) processed by the Advanced Settings / Controllers functions first?
-- then what?
-- do we use the MIDI Settings to assign them to parameters?
-- what sorts of parameters would be controlled by each of the MPE message types?
-- how are the MIDI channels (incremented for each Note On) to be handeled?

You need a daw, host mpe compatible: bitwig, reaper, cubase,traktion.... or setup your host like that :
https://support.roli.com/support/soluti ... leton-live

And a mpe hardware controller, but you can use mpe without any controller....

A mpe controller cycle through midi channels every new midi notes: 2 to 16 midi channels .

In Msf, mpe midi CC are located into the modulation per voices : assign what you want.
