7 out of 9 groundhogs choose Tracktion

seriously though, I think having a groundhog for a mascot is an excellent idea. :)

if they wanted to get all 'corporate' about it, they could always advertise T2 not crashing, day after day.

I'm expecting to see a groundhog in the adverts now. If I don't, I'll be disappointed!

But many of them die...haven't you been paying attention

This cruelty must stop. Until the groundhog mortality rate comes down I don't think they can possibly launch T2.

I absolutely agree. I've spent a fortune in gas driving over to Punxsutawney to find a replacement. The locks they put on that things' cage getting to be impossible to pick too.

History of Punxsutawney Phil

In 1723, the Delaware Indians settled Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania as a campsite halfway between the Allegheny and the Susquehanna Rivers. The town is 90 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, at the intersection of Route 36 and Route 119. The Delawares considered groundhogs honorable ancestors. According to the original creation beliefs of the Delaware Indians, their forebears began life as animals in "Mother Earth" and emerged centuries later to hunt and live as men.

The name Punxsutawney comes from the Indian name for the location "ponksad-uteney" which means "the town of the sandflies." The name woodchuck comes from the Indian legend of "Wojak, the groundhog" considered by them to be their ancestral grandfather.

When German settlers arrived in the 1700s, they brought a tradition known as Candlemas Day, which has an early origin in the pagan celebration of Imbolc. It came at the mid-point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. Superstition held that if the weather was fair, the second half of Winter would be stormy and cold. For the early Christians in Europe, it was the custom on Candlemas Day for clergy to bless candles and distribute them to the people in the dark of Winter. A lighted candle was placed in each window of the home. The day's weather continued to be important. If the sun came out February 2, halfway between Winter and Spring, it meant six more weeks of wintry weather.

The earliest American reference to Groundhog Day can be found at the Pennsylvania Dutch Folklore Center at Franklin and Marshall College:

February 4, 1841 - from Morgantown, Berks County (Pennsylvania) storekeeper James Morris' diary..."Last Tuesday, the 2nd, was Candlemas day, the day on which, according to the Germans, the Groundhog peeps out of his winter quarters and if he sees his shadow he pops back for another six weeks nap, but if the day be cloudy he remains out, as the weather is to be moderate."

If the sun made an appearance on Candlemas Day, an animal would cast a shadow, thus predicting six more weeks of Winter. Germans watched a badger for the shadow. In Pennsylvania, the groundhog, upon waking from mid-Winter hibernation, was selected as the replacement.

Pennsylvania's official celebration of Groundhog Day began on February 2nd, 1886 with a proclamation in The Punxsutawney Spirit by the newspaper's editor, Clymer Freas: "Today is groundhog day and up to the time of going to press the beast has not seen its shadow." The groundhog was given the name "Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators, and Weather Prophet Extraordinary.'' It was so proclaimed by the "Punxsutawney Groundhog Club" in 1887, the same year they declared Punxsutawney to be the weather capital of the world. His debut performance: no shadow - early Spring.

The legendary first trip to Gobbler's Knob was made the following year. Now a days at Gobbler's Knob, Phil is placed in a heated burrow underneath a simulated tree stump on stage before being pulled out at 7:25 a.m. to make his prediction.

Hello everyone,

It has been a long time since I posted here but I do visit every day or so to see what is happening.
Forgive me in advance for what I am about to say...
I found it a bit troubling that Jules would post that information about T2 in another forum (even thought he was looking for plugs) and yet he has ignored the T users in this forum . I know I am over reacting, but I thought I would say it anyway. People have been asking questions in here for some time now. All they wanted was some little bit of info that would sustain them until a later date.
I know I am taking it the wrong way...I guess it would of been nice to have him drop in and say something.

Ok I am back to normal now...

Mackie probably doesn't want him telling everyone features in case they don't make it into t2 and they don't want him saying a release date in case it's not out by then.

Or, the sane version--

They had a problem to solve: "Hey, what plug-ins can we bundle?" and Jules had a quick solution: "Hey, why don't I ask the developers over at KvR?" It seems to me that he popped in, asked a practical and direct question, then popped out.

Just because he didn't want to stop into the RMS forum and gossip about it doesn't mean jack. Plus, were I him, I'd be awfully tired of most of us by now. I'm not him, though, so that might not be it at all. ;)

Yip

If I was Jules I'd think us lot (I'll include meself even tho I dont "hog") were a right bunch o wingeing pricks. If mouths were kept shut, I bet he'd have told us stuff already. If he's remotely like me (unlikely!) he looks upon the forum and just thinks "OH for f**ks sake" and goes and does something else. I mean what does the usual suspects rabbiting on about f**king groundhogs or whatever actually accomplish? f**k all!

Accomplish? This is KvR mate. I dunno if you've not been paying attention, but that's the way people seem to like it round here. :P

KvR is frankly more fun than my job, and that's why I hang around. :)
