Google for your CPU. There are Infos for every CPU on Intel's website. I guess the same applies to AMD CPU's.
Native Instruments Massive X Synth - Sequel to Massive (Out Now!)

The only info I have is Intel I7-3770. Don't know the name or anything else. That's what's in the system specs.

Yes, anything that came out from Apple prior to 2011 does not have AVX compatibility.
So, just watch out for that when you buy things, if you have an older Mac without an upgradeable CPU, as I do.
Just the nature of the beast; more and more software I'm sure will require AVX, or some other new instructions standard that comes up.
No problem here; I have plenty to keep me busy for the rest of my life!
I do wish NI would make that fact a little clearer in their marketing for Massive X, though, that's my only complaint.

It's good to see things like AVX being used, as it tends to get ignored. But mandating it will cut off a bigger chunk of the existing market than some might think. A 10 year old "Nehalem" quad i7, much less Xeons with more cores, will run pretty much any audio software well today. So there is little pressure to "upgrade" for these users - they simply do not need to.babel2 wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2019 1:52 pm I own an old Mac Pro with 12 cores of Xeon processing that handles modern vi’s and fx comfortably & I certainly won’t be upgrading just to run Massive X.
It’s a bit disappointing there’s no alternate option but oh well. No Massive for me or anyone else in the same boat.
Maybe a good time to upgrade if you're looking at AMD (Threadripper 3 aside). Intel not so much, unless you want a high price, high core room heater. Since their new desktop process is delayed (again) until next year, leaving them with little to do except stick more cores in to boost performance, better to delay till next year if you're going that path.
Would be nice for NI to leave in the option.. on the understanding that non-AVX machines will see significantly higher CPU loads. IMO this approach would also be more likely to drive upgrades (to new hardware) than just cutting those machines off.

Yeah, would have been a big surprise if it didn't. As far as i can see, about any CPU from the last decade should support AVX. Otherwise, Native Instruments surely also wouldn't make use of it.ew wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2019 2:36 pmIt does.wagtunes wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2019 2:29 pmThe only info I have is Intel I7-3770. Now it's June 27? Ok...
Will MX have an unison/detune/hypersaw in any form?

As far as i understood it, it will have global unison. Hopefully in the way Massive had.
NI's direction seems to be high sound quality/high CPU though, so, i wouldn't expect too much. Their mod pack and, especially, their crush pack effects are pretty insane in terms of CPU, and, their latest synth, Super-8 pretty much as well. I'm not quite sure if that is the right direction, because, Massive was very popular for electronic dance music, and, unison is a big thing for that, obviously, so, if i would be them, i'd rather aim at making it CPU efficient as well, so it can run a lot of voices together. Doesn't seem to be their plan. Which surprises me a bit. But, surely not worth judging it before testing, maybe it's not that bad, even though Evil Dragon hinted at it being quite expensive.

Ah, ok then. Like Virus.
TBH I don't worry much about the CPU because I bounce things all the time. We now have enough CPU-optimized WT synths, like Hive, Dune, Rapid etc. I want brutal precision/processing quality for things like formant shift, FM/audio rate modulation, etc.

Yeah, just without hypersaw oscillator/unison on osc level (i think).
For the "brutal precision/processing quality for things like formant shift, FM/audio rate modulation", i guess you will get exactly that with Massive X.

Vaporizer2 initially required AVX compatibility but they later added SSE2 version in the exe.

MX's DSP requires AVX tho, SSE version would make it nigh impossible to run on any CPU today.

Must be insanely cpu heavy then?

Well the good news is MX is pushing the envelope, instead of just being Massive with more presets. You should cheer!
