Unwanted overdubs

I'm having a problem with Waveform 9.32. I've recorded one track from through an Allen&Heath Zed14 USB output. When I want to record other tracks, I can't stop Tracktion from playing the first one through the new track, which means I can't multitrack; it's effectively bouncing down automatically. I'm obviously missing something blindingly obvious, but it's driving me mad. Any ideas?

is there something in the zed14 routing, that it gets fed back into the newly recorded track in the mixer routing?
that would be the first thing i'd check.
for example, when the new track you are recording through the mixer is recorded via the the masterbus of the mixer and the track you already recorded is also played out through the master of the mixer, you may end up feeding both into the new track in tracktion.
just a guess ...

from a quick view on the zed14:
you probably have to set the switch on channel 11/12 (usb return) pressed down ("to 11/12"), this way you can control via this channel (eq and volume) what you hear from the computer (tracks already recorded in tracktion).
then on the usb-send switches (directly under the usb plug), set the usb-send to aux 3-4 (leave all other switches unpressed).
then on the channel you want to record, set the aux3 or aux4 (both only for stereochannels) knob to 3'clock (0db) and set the recording level via the channel fader, check for overs in tracktion on the meter.
in tracktion your recording device has two channels, when you record in mono choose channel1 (left) for aux3 or channel2 (right) for aux4.
on the phones you should hear the master alone (when no solo is pressed and all the extraswitches are out), which now carries both signals (recorded track and usb return from tracktion). make sure you don't monitor through tracktion, because then you'll hear the track you want to record twice (through the mixer directly and through tracktion) with a delay between both. it is always preferable to monitor directly through the mixer.
when you have set the correct level for the track you want to record on the track fader, adjust the balance with the playback with the trackfader from track 11/12, overall loudness with masterfader and phoneslevel.
that should do it for overdubs.
happy recording ...
p.s. i assume that you know how to dial in an incoming signal on the mixer with the gain-knob on the trackinput. this has to be done as first step, before you start to record anything via the steps above.

correction: aux3 and 4 both carry a sum of l+r on stereo channels, aux1 and 2 can be used for stereo (a switch has to be set for this)

Thanks klangbastler, it was the mixer routing as you described- I found the A&H documentation unclear, my old Mackie 1202VLZPro was much better in that respect.
