OK, I run some Linux plugins. Like Diva, Hive2 and ZebraHZ.

I also run Biotek and Biotek2. All in Bitwig, and in Harrison Mixbus32C.

All native Linux applications.

But perhaps you had something else in mind that represents 100% what a Linux system is.

wilx wrote: Fri Jun 21, 2019 10:38 am I don't think crappy Linux plugins should be the quality bar here - industry standard stuff like Logic's plugins, soundtoys, u-he etc should.
Sorry to disappoint you but u-he plugins are native Linux applications.

Just like Bitwig.

Although maybe you do have a 100% faithful representation of what a Linux system is. You certainly 'sound' like you do.

Side question: do you think that crappy Windows/Mac plugins should set the UI standard ? No ? So why do you oppose 'crappy Linux plugins' vs. very specific Windows/Mac plugins ?

Meanwhile here's a screen shot from Debian, from a 'little' application that have produced several well-known animations:

Chill brother, no one is saying Linux sucks. I was thinking more like MDA plugins, ZynAddSubFx, those types of homegrown plugins which are powerful but have really basic GUI.

Zynaddsubfx ? How is this a very basic GUI ?

rlared wrote: Mon Jun 17, 2019 3:11 am I care about GUI's but I think Melda's GUIs are fine. They're not the most beautiful plugins in the world but I appreciate that they all share the same framework, so once you get familiar with one then using others is easy. They are designed for power and efficiency.

:hihi: Thank you!

Btw. new knobs for next update. DarkStar doesn't like them, yet, but he will :D

As the knobs are my biggest gripe with the new look, I look forward to the new ones.
Otherwise I really became friends with the neon style.

Yes, the neon style is great, and the new knobs makes it even better looking.

That's the newer one that came out recently. I was talking about the original GUI. What's your problem? If it makes you feel better I'll change my statement to "homegrown Windows plugins". Happy?

Ok, so, previous knobs:

I think the new one is much more comfortable to look at. I'd prefer if the knobs were a little bigger and the color ring a little smaller though, like the previous version had.

Hmmm... about 3 years ago, in a certain month of November 2016.

The problem is only with setting things straight. Crappy UI can be found everywhere, there's no use to specifically:

As if crappy UIs was a reference in Linux systems. That's the problem.

How about this Linux system that I use regularly ? 8)

As far as I see it, it unifies the intent. By that I mean that the Melda UI is not built on the physical device metaphor, like so many plugins are, which are duplicating in a way or another material existence: looking like a known physical tool and device. The Rolodex software of early Windows apps with which one would see a Rolodex on the screen and turn its knob to access the names as each card is being flipped by the rotation, to illustrate with an extreme example.

The Melda UI I find is rather software-based. It does not attempt to replicate a rack mount, the panel of an amp, the look of a real mixing console, the panel of synthesizers. This replication can have its charm and can also be well-done, but this is not where the Melda UI is.

All this to say that the new flat knobs are concisely establishing where the UI is located, in software land. As such it becomes harmonious with the rest of the UI. It is not longer saying "hey, I'm rooted in software but here are a few physical-looking knobs". Instead it's boldly stating its stance in a unified way and this might just help to gain more adepts.

Cheers.

FWIW, I actually prefer the previous knobs. They go better with the current buttons. To my eye, the new knobs look out of place with the rest of the UI.
If less is more, imagine how much more MORE will be.

Post

fwiw, I also prefer the older knobs; easier to distinguish/reach for them amidst all the other controls. The new ones disappear into the b-ground for me, NOT helpful.

But if change they must, I'll live‚ my MSF love undiminished:)

Post

I prefer the new ones by far.

Post

TBH, so long as I can see everything that I need to, I don't really care what it looks like.
