Zebra 3 feature suggestions

I want three things:

1. Some kind of granular generator. U-he did an old-school version of this with one of the Uhbiks (though it was an effect, not a sound source). That's the only kind of thing I can't do now that I'd like to be able to do.

2. Some visual indication that a source is being modulated. I take Urs's point on this, but honestly, things get complicated . . .

4. I want Zebra 3 to melt my CPU. Seriously. I want my fans permanently spinning, because I have four Diva-level Moog filters running. I want oscillators so processing intensive that I need asbestos gloves to use the damn thing.

I realize 3 is not going to be a popular suggestion, but honestly, this is maybe the finest soft synth in existence -- it should not cut any corners. It should be up to the user to dial back the HQ if necessary.

3 was so unpopular you couldn't even bring yourself to post it?? I wonder what it was... :hihi: :tu:

I'd honestly suggest unsubscribing yes, I don't think anyone of us here actually know much. And there's bound to be obvious telltale signs from Urs/u-he when they have any more concrete news for us on development that I'd dare say isn't likely to surface only in this thread if indeed in this thread at all.

Just below the headline there's a wrench symbol (Tool tip says "Topic tools"), hit that and (un)subscribe should be an option.

Thanks. I think I still get notification, because I am the thread starter actually :)

Three is a secret! I communicated it telepathically to Urs.

Sometimes I use the X/Y pads to change multiple parameters at once - not as a performance tool, but just to find the most pleasing set of values. It might be cool to have the ability to 'flatten' the X/Y pads back into the values / recenter them around the current point.

There’s a wrench Icon next to the “post reply” button. Click it and you’ll see a drop down that includes “Unsubscribe topic.”

Maybe this is too much but....

It would be an absolute dream if Zebra 3 supported some of Haken Audio's "MPE+" features to maximize using it with the Continuum. Especially HI-Res aftertouch (I think it's CC70 paired with another CC) and the alternative "strike" calculation for velocity. The Eagan Matrix is incredible but Zebra's superpowers can do things EM can't (and the reverse, of course). IT's the ONE soft synth that just screams to be used with the Continuum. And 7-bit aftertouch a la Roli Rise/Linnstrument, whether polyphonic/MPE or even channel, is just too rough for my patches unless it's used as a minor enhancement to a sound.

The Continuum sending it's full res data to Zebra and Zebra actually using it would just be THE dream HW/SW synth combination, at least for me.

(Hi-res velocity support would be great too - I know you can't play with that kind of specificity but those slight variations, at least as I've experienced them with a PXS1000 and Pianoteq, make the virtual feel truly real to the player - or at least some of us).

p.s. PLEASE keep the 14-bit midi support. I use it constantly.

Tiny FR for Z3, in fact for all u-he synths - Make the Next/Prev preset buttons midi map-able.

Yes, I know there are ways to make this work with program change messages, but it doesn't suit the workflow when I pull up a synth and just want to surf presets during a jam. :)

Post

Probably ain't happening because patches do need to be preloaded into RAM, like the situation is with MIDI Programs folder.

Post

But if you click next/previous, the patches are obviously not pre-loaded, that would be pre-cognitive synthesis, and a little freaky :)

I don't need instant recall, just the same amount of load time it would take if I clicked a button, so I can browse patches from my controller without mousing or reaching for the PC keyboard.

Post

The thing is that doing hard drive I/O stuff on MIDI messages is tricky and unsafe business that can be unstable in some hosts. That's why there's MIDI Programs folder and preloading of those patches when the plugin is loaded. This is the method that exists now, and I wouldn't expect any changes in how this all works.

Does anyone really believe that the Zebra 3 is coming !? Zebra 2 is from 2005 a short time later came Hz with the promise who has got both, become Zebra 3 for free! ... that's almost 15 years ago! A single laugh!
I do not like U-he software anymore, the magic has been lost!

Post

lol goodbye then.

Zebra HZ was released in 2012, 6 years after Z2. Actually Z2 final was released in October 2006
Last bigger update for Zebra 2+HZ was 2018
https://u-he.com/products/zebra2/releasenotes.html

Hive 1.2 + 2 included several features which will be prototypes for Z3, which is expected for 2020 (which then is 14 years after release, not 15, and 2 years after the last update if there is no other until then)
