I recently got the Expressive E touche SE and as I expected, it is fantastic with Bitwig. You can use the included Lie software wrapper to try presets, but really with Bitwig's modulation system you can do all the same stuff just using the CC modulators, since they have custom ranges and work in a relative way. So it's really a great pairing. Highly recommended!

As cool as MPE stuff is, I think I enjoy this just as much. And it's nice because you can use it with anything and modify any existing bitwig preset or plugin preset with some cool modulation.

For those who haven't seen it, this is touche SE (cheaper USD only version of the original Touche):

+1, the Touche is great with Bitwig's modulators (I made a YouTube tutorial if you search 'Bitwig' and 'Touche' if anyone is curious how the setup looks like). I tried a Seaboard but the Touche clicked way better for me so I am using that in conjunction with a regular old MIDI controller now. It is quite underrated as I think it is essentially a new kind of instrument in its own right. It has a bit of a learning curve but it is very rewarding once you get the hang of it. Just very recently actually, JunkieXL showed off the Touche:

It would be nice if eventually we had enough community users to have a preset bank specifically for Touche & VSTs / BW devices :) I may make some of mine public anyways if there is interest.

I only wish I had known they would release the SE version.. would have saved me some $$ as I don't use the extra features of the regular one!

that looks cool. nice Video. Do you have an experience in how it compares to the sensel morph?

Post

The Sensel can be a MPE controller in itself, but is just a configurable touch pad. No comparison - like apples and bikes...

I just got a Touché SE myself, and I agree, it's brilliant with Bitwig. No need for Lié except to update firmware and set up MIDI (I like having both side directions assigned to the same MIDI CC).

At first I tried to use it with MIDI controller assignments on individual knobs, and that was... terrible actually. But with MIDI modulators it's perfect.

I set up Ondes Martenot-like presets for FM4 and Aalto, and an FX Grid preset that sends Touché CV out through my ES-3.

Getting some cool results mapping sideways motion to the delay time in Delay 1, and believe it or not, the grain size in the Pitch Shifter. When I get home from work tonight I have an idea for mapping controls as if they're phase in Grid step sequences... :D

I was an early adopter and the Touche is the single best purchase I have made in the last decade. It truly is a musical instrument. Highly highly recommend. And with Bitwig- yes amazing too.

I played with one in the shop - very expressive

I just ordered one (found a b stock as new for 250, so not much more than the SE and I am a Eurorack guy so the CV outs are worth the extra to me ) - I had also seen it used with an electron hear ‘playing” filter and distortion over midi and was pretty impressed. I love anything that adds more expression or makes thing more fun and playable (I have roli, sensel and a bop pad!) and this looks like a lot of fun, which is what it’s all about for me
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

You won't regret it...

How do you work with it? I mean, have you people made yourself a remote script or...?

It comes with its own software.

If you use the provided LIE software your VSTs are scanned and you use that for mapping (there are also a lot of pre-mapped and free presets)

It is also very easy to map in BW directly, click and move it or make a template with the 4 cc's on...

Lié is yuck, I like Bitwig. Isn't it that without a script Bitwig maps per-project, rather than per-channel? That's too impracticable for use with Touché.

What do you mean? You just load a midi modulator into a device and map the 4 cc's as modulation sources (cc16-19 by default).
