Trying to make a screencast with SL6 and Camtasia is a disaster, Camtasia freezes, SL6 freezes, force quit and spinning beach balls everywhere, obviously SL6 doesn't want to be filmed just yet. I'll wait for a hot-fix or something, this is unusable in it's current state...

Of course it’s an audio editor. Magix is not Steinberg , Steinberg should not aim to be like Magix. They bought technology and should put it into their editor , Wavelab. My opinion only.v1o wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 2:11 pmThis isn’t an audio editor. It’s meant to used together in conjunction with your standard editor like RX7 or Wavelab. That’s why Magix sell it with Soundforge.popskull wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 10:51 am I'll wait until its integrated in wavelab , maybe version 10. Silly for Steinberg to have wavelab and this in my opinion.
Also AFAIK Spectralayers is made by a different team independent of Wavelab. It used to be sold by Sony then later Magix. The chances of integration into Wavelab are nil.

Maybe they didn't "buy" the technology but the rights to distribute the product and iirc Wavelab is also made by another developer not Steinberg.popskull wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2019 8:55 pmOf course it’s an audio editor. If you read the whole thread you will see what one of the devs says about SL's future ideas. BTW, it has ARA2 integration or it's planned, I believe.

I personally prefer that they keep it a seperate product to maintain integration with other hosts. Integrating with wavelab would severely limit their customer base.
@v1o is correct, the devs don’t aim to compete with RX, which is largely of a collection of high quality processes. SL is more of an environment for accessing and editing audio data, this is where it excels. The newest version offers great integration for doing your processing in external editors.
@sampleconstruct, I get some weird graphic issues as well with my older MacBook Pro. I wonder if there is a graphic card issue with a certain vintage.

Hi there - SpectraLayers creator and lead dev here. Sorry for the issues some of you have been having with the new version; it's almost like a fresh start with major code rewrite and the new publisher, hard to catch all the scenarios with the specificities of all computer configurations, even with months of beta-testing & QA. Working on fixing the issues mentionned here for the next patch !
Regarding SpectraLayers itself, it will remain a separate product - the whole interface and technologies were designed around deep, Photoshop-like spectral editing - moving it inside Wavelab would be a bit counter-productive in this case. However with the new ARA2 connection, it aims to provide tight integration within ARA2-capable DAWs, such as Cubase, Nuendo, Studio One, Reaper and Bandlab Cakewalk to name a few.
Feel free to send me a PM if you encounter specific issues or have specific requests.

Thanks, Robin! Great communication is much appreciated! And happy to see you move over to Steinberg -- hopefully they will help/support your team as you push SpectraLayers to its full potential. It's an amazing app that I think many people don't really understand yet!Robin Lobel wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2019 8:19 am Hi there - SpectraLayers creator and lead dev here. I finally managed to make a screencast video without crashing or stalling:
Audio-morphing a drone with a processed field recording using the moulding function in Spectral Layers 6.

This project crashed three times before the screencast went through:
Audio-morphing a viola phrase from one of my chamber music works with a female speech recording (from an interview I made with my mum).

I have Iris 2, used as a synth and to mess around with vocals, with bitwig so no ara for me.
Are there any must have uses for this that might persuade me that i need this?

For anyone wanting to use SpectraLayers in Studio One.. the method for opening it up as an ARA editor is not obvious.
However, with some help from the Steinberg forum, here's how:
"..the only way to use it as an ARA plugin in S1 is to drag and drop it onto an audio region from the Effects tab while holding the Alt key..."
Works for me. And hopefully a smoother way will happen with some future updates from PreSonus. But an OK solution for now.
