Ever lost a project only because of the forgotten name?

here's the way i do it (Cubase SX2):
when i start a new project, i start working in my default directory ("test") and i only save it if i get somewhere. i then give it some name, whatever. only when i recorded audio (or imported a reaktor ensemble) i click File -> Save Project to New Directory.
this way, i don't have to make a new directory every time i start messing about in Cubase. and all projects that need to be in separate directories (because they have extra .wav or .ens files) are in separate directories.
the only pitfall in my approach is that i tend to change the project's title once it's finished. so i have to keep track of the working titles.
oh, and i name my mixdowns 'songtitleYYMMDD' too.
lazy f**ks need to get 'emselves organised is what i say.

all the time
my files tend to start off with names like "crystal and oddity 6" then at each stage as the tune forms it gets a new name
then somewhere between mixdown and publication i give a more fitting name
then when people give me new ideas i cant remember which bloody tune it was

semi-anal herepHz wrote:i use a new folder for each project ...

... all a bit anal i guess but it DOES make things easy to keep track of

make one main folder with descriptive name and a dated subfolder for each new sessions project files.
I rarely save anything in the hosts default project folder (some templates)
I don't get into seperate folders for midi, audio, fxp
just dump all the files for that song in the main folder.
then burn it all to disc at the end of each session
