The "NEW" Plugin Alliance?

They have some pretty cool new plugins that I'd like to have, but I won't be buying into a subscription. Until this last batch of plugins, I already owned most of their catalog and have no interest in the ones I didn't have. I may end up buying one of the new plugins still, but it would be a perpetual license. i just can't get into the subscription model, unless I was doing this full-time.

$10 is my no-brainer price it seems. I don't think twice about Netflix, Spotify etc around the $10 mark. $25 a month gives me pause. $179 upfront loses my interest. I wonder if most people are that way, since the ~$10 area is where the big corporations land their subscription plans.

Yep the next few months will be telling for just how well received their sub method has beenGreenstorm33 wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 4:11 pm Prediction: they'll keep prices high for a few months to try to funnel people into their subscription, but they'll be back to the fire sales by the holiday season when they realize nobody's biting and that's the only way they can make any money off of their massively devalued plugin stable. Unfortunately this means I might not be able to get LION when it's released because it'll be too expensive![]()

All the shitty heavy hitter voucher codes for new plugins and my rather lousy "Deal of a Lifetime" code for free here. Also selling my sub-par $75 voucher and some second-rate, shoddy plugins.

...I don't even know if anyone would be interested in such ass-backwards deal, but here it is nonetheless (I know some of you enjoy that little kinky s&m moment here and there...)

Best part: you will get LION in a couple of months for $29 once all the bugs have been -hopefully- taken care of. Patience, and wait... are the two keywords for PA.Digivolt wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 5:26 pmYep the next few months will be telling for just how well received their sub method has beenGreenstorm33 wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 4:11 pm Prediction: they'll keep prices high for a few months to try to funnel people into their subscription, but they'll be back to the fire sales by the holiday season when they realize nobody's biting and that's the only way they can make any money off of their massively devalued plugin stable. Honestly I don't think we'll see Lion on sale for a long time, since Thorn became PA it's not been on sale yet has it ?escalona wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 5:32 pmBest part: you will get LION in a couple of months for $29 once all the bugs have been -hopefully- taken care of. Ever since Camel Audio ceased business and I simultaneously had some upgrade issues with some other plugs not working with a macOS upgrade, I’ve changed my buying habits significantly, both hardware and software (bought an RME interface specifically for future updates to legacy hardware).cptgone wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 2:35 pmA plugin one owns MAY indeed become useless - but a finite subscription SHALL become useless, as soon as you kick that habit.DJMaytag wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 2:30 pm RE: “subscribe and not actually own anything”
How many plugins do you own outright that have become useless due to not being updated because the company folded?
I’m willing to speculate that the cost/benefit ratio balances out in the long run with PA by subscribing, as it should enable them to stay afloat and keep maintaining plugs to be compatible with future macOS updates. Nevermind that there’s likely more plugs being added to the PA lineup down the road, just like we had 6 new ones show up just recently.

I just can’t see people subscribing. The Roland Cloud was half as much and much sexier being mainly instruments (and some real gems) but it was pretty much slated and even with the Roland marketing machine behind it hasn’t really set the world on fire. It may have value if you ate a professional studio or producer....but not to the vast majority who can pick up no brainier deals periodically like the waves or eventide stuff for 20-30 bucks...
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Except the Roland Cloud let's you keep two plugins per year, which sweetens the deal considerably. It's nice knowing my subscription bought the System-8 and Juno plugs.SLiC wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 6:25 pm I just can’t see people subscribing. So if I sign up for Roland cloud now and purchase two years in advance I get to keep two of the plugins?Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 6:48 pmExcept the Roland Cloud let's you keep two plugins per year, which sweetens the deal considerably. This however introduces a number of issuesDJMaytag wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 5:53 pmEver since Camel Audio ceased business and I simultaneously had some upgrade issues with some other plugs not working with a macOS upgrade, I’ve changed my buying habits significantly, both hardware and software (bought an RME interface specifically for future updates to legacy hardware).cptgone wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 2:35 pmA plugin one owns MAY indeed become useless - but a finite subscription SHALL become useless, as soon as you kick that habit.DJMaytag wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 2:30 pm RE: “subscribe and not actually own anything”

1). You wont be able to open your old projects if you choose not to continue the sub
2). There´s no guarantee PA will still be hot in the future, by then you cant leave because of #1
3. Most users will need more than one sub as they have quite a few holes in their lineup
4) You would be paying for stuff you don´t use (i.e.PA have cost for maintenance/dev).
5) What´s the incentive to continue develop old plugins with this model?
The pricing for perpetual is ridiculous btw: 370 for the new plugins and 179 for the subscription.
PA should have aligned the pricing so that it would be similar to what you pay for, say, 3 years.
I´m not buying anything else from PA until I am confident that I can continue collect plugins at reasonable prices, without having the subscription.

That's dumb on their part. The YOURS program was a huge part of the appeal of the Roland sub. Looks like I'm grandfathered in, but I wouldn't be subscribed in the first place if not for that.0degree wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 6:52 pmNope, it's not true anymore, see this topic: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=475542perpetual3 wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 6:51 pmSo if I sign up for Roland cloud now and purchase two years in advance I get to keep two of the plugins?Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 6:48 pmExcept the Roland Cloud let's you keep two plugins per year, which sweetens the deal considerably.
