It's one of the reasons shared dll's are sort of silly in a world of terabyte drives: saving that 300k just doesn't make much sense with all the havoc an unexpectedly overwritten dll can cause, which was once a big problem in Windows. I do see lame hiding out in the Waveform package.
I should know this about audio loops but sadly don't

I think it's fairly common for apps to reference specific version of a DLL installed in their own directory or package file, since there isn't an equivalent to the Windows 32 system folder... I don't think bin gets that much use from normal apps because of the permission issues...

My install of Waveform doesn't include a rex shared library installed to that location, and the props website specifically suggests installing that shared library to make rex support work in Logic. So I installed it, and it installed to that location, with permissions set for read access to every user, therefore that shouldn't be an issue... Personally I'd try it, but it's your shout.

Bingo! When I installed the library directly, I tracked the files down to library/application support/propellerhead software/rex, and the Rex folder was locked down so that only the owner had permission to the folder (and the shared library within). Giving read access to all brings Rex back to life! Since Waveform must be looking to the default location for the library, something out there must occasionally be messing with the permissions. (My guess would be some other installer? Since it's happened on three different computers for me, it's not just a one-off weird Apple permission thing).
Regardless, thanks for the suggestion!

Cool, glad that worked
The props site has a little batch script, that just sudo chmods that directory to 777 (read and execute for all, as you know). They seem to recommend that gets run if you're running OSX 10.8.3, maybe there's been something when moving between versions of MacOS, where directorys in there get rewritten to different permissions, as a security bugfix, possibly?
More likely it's another app that installs the same library, and sets it's own permissions, i guess. Might be worth Waveform checking the perms on that directory, as part of the error log?
