Protected files?

Hey all,
Why are my 'rendered' (ie. not exported, just 'rendered to specific file') files 'protected'? I can't burn them to CD because of who knows what... and I can't open them in other audio editors, either!
Fluke? Or is this the way it should be? Do I have to go back to 11 separate edits and use the 'export' function just to get files that can be burned to CD?
Anyone else encounter this, or is there something weird going on here?
Greg

That was definitely it at first (edit: or at least, I smacked my forehead because of course 24-bit won't work!)-- but then I converted them to 16-bit using foobar, and it still didn't work.
For some strange reason, even though I had just 'converted' them, though, when I used WMP10 instead of Nero, it then 'converted' them (again? Plus, I didn't even think WMP10 HAD 24-bit support... so how could it convert?) before burning, and then the burn was successful.
Hrm.
Something's still dodgy, and I'm not sure what... I don't like having to use workarounds for something that should be straightforward.
