Hi guys :) ,

my question is: is there a way to improve the wavetable import quality/ playback of the imported wavetable quality of Msoundfactory?

I downloaded the Demo of MsoundFactory and i like the presets very much. However, I would use the synth for sound design. Therefore I compared Sample-import with two other Wavetable-Synths.

I didn't thought there was such a difference ... but there is. I used a Marimba Sample
44.1khz 16bit. I adopted the scrolling speed to get a similar sound and decay.
Soundcloud playback order:
1.) original sample played by Bitwig sampler
2.) Serum. Wavetable is played back at 4.1 khz
3.) Phase Plant. Wavetable played back at 0.26hz
4.) MSF. Played back at 1250ms

Serum and MSF especially, introduce quite some artifacts.
Is there a way to improve this?
Is there a way to get closer to the original and still using a wavetable?

Thanks a lot
Cheers

Hi,

well, to me neither sounds the same, all cause artifacts of some kind, which is pretty natural given they are produced from wavetables. The Phase plant thing, that you seem to consider the best sounds like gated or something, to me it looses lots of the audio itself.
Anyways we can certainly try other ways of importing samples, there's like infinite ways to do that. Feel free to send me some samples to info@meldaproduction.com. But to be honest, it's a bit low priority since the todo list is ehm, long :)

Thanks for the reply! :D
I just wondered, if I missed some options or imported the wrong way, since I'm new to MSF. I'm going to play a lot more with the synth in future and might hit you up, thanks for that ! :tu:

Stupid question: why do you use a wavetable synth instead of a sample-based synth if you seem to be looking for a realistic sound?

My intentions are:
- Alternate original sample
-Morph 2 or more short samples inside a wavetable

Maybe it works better when you play the attack sound with a sampler and the sustain with a wavetable.

I get sightly better results, if i use 2 wavetables - one for the attack with fast playback speed and one for the decay.
I'll try the sampler as soon it's available
