Hello Vojtech

I really miss a good deverb plugin from time to time (a plugin that attempts to remove reverb tails from recordings, like Izotope, Acon and others have done). I'm sure you could do a killer MDeverb

Very good for lot's of things, especially those where you need more direct signal from a recording, sometimes just in small dozes to give that extra presence. Can also be interesting for different creative sound-work.

Will you consider this?? :hyper:

Wait for the MXXX release. There might be a "deverb"-preset in it, who knows ... ;)

Hi folks,

I have it planned when I get to the spectral things - morphing, dereverb... The problem is, I have never heard a plugin, that would work well. Before someone starts whining as always, THIS IS JUST MY OPINION :D - I tried Acon, didn't work at all, seemed like a gate, Zynaptiq did work partly, when the reverb removal was enough to even consider using the plugin, it started producing alien sounds like really badly encoded mp3 :D. I didn't know Izotope has one, I'll check it out! :D

Statistically speaking true reverb removal is probably impossible, because optimal reverberation is a white noise, so it cannot be extracted as it cannot be distinguished from the original signal. But well, when I'm in the spectral things, I'm quite looking forward to try myself anyway :D.

Oh, I finally checked the iZotope dereverb and that's not even an attempt do remove reverb, it's just a multiband dynamics processor... :x

Seems that I should really try to do that :D... challenge accepted :D

That's great news Vojtech - Really !!! :D

I'm sure you can do an excellent tool for this.
Ready to beta-test and comment/suggest etc. - just let me know!

I wouldn't be so optimistic :D, after all I still believe it is generally impossible, but who knows :D...

I'm sure you'll get there - If you can make it better than the rest, there will be a market for it :D

just checking this thread after 4 years...is there any good reverb remover from melda?

Post

Funny I was checking out this thread today for the same reasons. I have izotope de-verb and it isn't "great" I think the processes must be very difficult to do... I had to go into a deeper mix to solve the ambiance problem and was hoping to deal with it at the subgroup level but no dice... too many artifacts with izotope.

The closest thing to deverb I have stumbled upon is carefully tweaked gating.
I actually accidentally found the opposite effect using the free MCompressor some time ago, using the freeform graph. By drawing in a curve that increases the gain at lower volumes (and not necessarily doing any compression) the reverb that was already present on my guitar tracks became more apparent (reverb that was "baked in" to the tracks with my guitar effects pedal).
Now, drawing a curve that attenuates the lower volumes decreases the apparent reverb.
And using one of Melda's multiband compressors that have the freeform transfer curves gives even more ability to craft the sound to taste. You can really tame or taper off reverb tails in very specific ways, while keeping the some of the density that a reverb can add to a track.
This may not be true deverb, but this method can yield great results!

I also used MSpectralDynamics and MTransientMB as dverb.

SpectralDynamics...sounds like a great idea for this purpose! While I haven't exactly ever really needed to deverb anything, I did experiment briefly with the idea. But I hadn't thought of using MSpectralDynamics. Cool idea! So, now I don't care that I don't need to deverb anything. Now I'm going to over-reverb something, and experiment with deverbing it.
Fun toys, er, I mean tools. Or, toyls?

I have used Izotope's Deverb from RX Standard, and it has been very useful in cleaning up recordings for business purposes, enough so that I wish I had Advanced so I could try their vocal-specific algorithm. I can't see it being much use in music production, though. Perhaps if one is trying to clean up a sample.
