That would be an interesting test.chk071 wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2019 1:08 pmI still have it installed as well, but i never checked it out. I'm curious now if i get the same latency/performance as with ASIO4ALL.Mushy Mushy wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2019 12:48 pm TBH, I use the Steinberg one when Iβm on the road because I hate ASIO4ALL.

No true in all cases. Depends on the device. Some drives dont install unless you connect the device. Depends how the vendor made the drivers.BONES wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2019 5:39 am You should always install the drivers without the device connected. Every USB device I've ever installed drivers for tells you that.

there should be logs in windows. filter for warning and error to see if there is some odd conflict. also, what chip and drivers are the built in soundcard? realtek? what happens if you use external audio interface?BONES wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2019 11:37 am It looks like my problem has solved itself. Everything seems to be working fine tonight, although I am not at home and the Behringer mixer is not in the loop. But with Cubase running on ASIO4all through the laptop soundcard (headphones) it all seems to be working OK, even though Cubase still reports the outputs as being unavailable. If I get it back home tomorrow and it won't work with the Behringer, then at least I'll know what the problem is. Windows updated itself last night and I suspect that may have been what solved the issue.

That's not been my experience. I get good results from ASIO4all and it allows me to use the computer's on-board audio system, in that I can switch from USB audio to internal audio to headphones under ASIO4all, but not with any dedicated ASIO drivers I've encountered.chk071 wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2019 11:40 amASIO4ALL is a emergency solution at best. It neither provides the same latency, nor the same performance as vendor ASIO drivers in most cases.
I've always used it on the go so I don't have to lug an interface around with me.I use ASIO4ALL as well, but... rather when i'm too lazy to plugin in my audio interface.
It's a class-compliant device so it will run without ASIO at all. It should also run with Realtek's recently available ASIO driver and probably Steinberg's "Generic USB" driver too.chk071 wrote: Wed Jul 31, 2019 12:37 pmDon't think it makes sense if you think about it. Referencing a freeware for the use of your product, worse latency, worse performance, no real warranty that it will run well on your computer at all...
They've been doing it for 15 years or more. It was probably the only outside solution at the time and this is the first time I've ever had a problem with it. That makes it pretty damned reliable in my book.i think it's pretty nuts, TBH. And won't shed a good light on your business practices. If i was them, i'd rather reference Windows Audio, or the Steinberg genereic low latency ASIO driver, than ASIO4ALL, which was rather meant to work well with standard cheap audio cards/chips anyway.
If it's working properly, why update it? It's not a commercial product, nobody is relying on a steady flow of income, so the only reason to update it would be to make it work better or to add new features. As it's pretty well full-featured and runs well, there is no need to update it.Nothing against ASIO4ALL. It just puzzles me how a pro audio company can rely on third party spare time developed freeware (which didn't receive an update in years, BTW).
