This one took just a couple of days to do. It all seemed to come together. Dabbled with poly rhythms on this one.

As soon as I read the first verse...it shouted rip off!! The cadence of the rhymes were derivative of " R-E-S-P-E-C-T Lord what that word means to me". Aretha is rolling in her grave. Didn't bother to go on from there.
Hey jackass, if you bothered listening to the song, it sounds NOTHING like Respect. And if you're going to accuse me of plagiarism, you better have a damn good lawyer when I sue you for libel.

That song reminds me of the Beatles instrument wise.
Many paid and free VSTs as well as Kontakt libraries. As well as HW synths/drum machine and acoustic instruments.

wagtunes,
Thank you for the reviews! Now your song "3 Minutes": Nice lyrics. Is YOHIO a Vocaloid thing? Kind of reminds me of Trevor (?) of The Buggles. The drum beat is fairly straightforward, though this song has kind of a Prog vibe for me somehow. Sounds 70's/80's to me, which is fine by me. Nice song and melodies! Instrumentally quite upbeat. I like it! :) I am posting this before it might disappear.

wagtunes,
Speaking of 'Davy Jones' (Locker), last month I did a night snorkel with Manta Rays on the Big Island of Hawaii. Lights attract plankton, which attracts the Manta Rays. One with a 10' wingspan (weighed about 1,000 pounds) was doing backflips underwater and almost ran into me. The whole underside of the great beast missed me by a foot or less. Unbelievable. Now your song: Yep, this sounds very 80's, sometimes 70's. Starts out pretty bizarre. Sounds more conventional when the piano is carrying the song. Nice keyboard playing. Nice melodies, though overall, I like "3 Minutes" better. Have a great day! :)

Can't really agree with the self belief score. If I believed in myself that much I might have made it by now. But thanks for the comments.

You know what I think you should do. Take a pop song that you like, and try and recreate it. Not just the sounds that are used, but the feel of the mix and the frequency spread. Just as an exercise in self education. There's music in what you do, it's just hidden behind a certain way of mixing. It's not that it's bad, it's just that your aspiration seems to lye in a different place to your current mixing habits.

My mixing is improving but I still have a long way to go.

Thought I'd share this here too. Life is sure strange.

Just received this email regarding my music.
Steven,

I had a call with my guitarist, drummer and bass player right after I got your last email. Explained things to them and sent them a link to your song.

I also told them you were the most prolific writer I have ever come across.

They took some times and reviewed a lot of your posted material.

Each came back to me with a series of songs that they liked.

They have proposed to me that we do a tribute album to you. They are both astounded at the amount of material you have published on Gearslutz.

Please be aware that the songs may be changed quite a bit from what you originally wrote as we would make it to fit our view of the material.

I know we can just send you an NOI and do it but I would like you to be comfortable with it.

No way I can predict a finish time frame or even if we can get it distributed by my distributor. My distributor said he would take a wait and see attitude on the material before deciding to release it.

In essence we would do the songs as we have time and at the end it may not get released. No matter what you would get copies of the finished versions.

The only bug in the ointment from my end is that my drummer He stated he does not have time to do this so I would like to get any midi tracks of the songs we are interested in.
I am assuming your drum tracks and such are midi.

I am the king of editing and pasting things so it would give me a jumpstart on programming the final sequence and drums of each song.

Would probably be a 1-2 year side project for us.

Hope to hear from you soon as I would have time to do some basic setup work on them before we get back to recording my next album in September..

If this is doable let me know and I will send you a list of the songs they chose.

Nice, hope they get it done! Would love to hear some of your songs done by a band sometime.

15th track from my upcoming CD "Still Out Of Sync" in honor of my grammar school reunion.

As The Years Go By

You walk into that room
Filled with doom and gloom
You don't know what to make of anything
Then suddenly you find
It was all inside your mind
Soon you laugh and soon you start to sing
And the words they just come out
And you know you want to shout
And tell the world you feel just like a king

As the years go by
And our tears they light the sky
And the past it seems to come around again
And to our surprise
Happens right before our eyes
Enemies they soon turn into friends
You don't even have to try
As the years go by

The end of day arrives
Feels good to be alive
You wonder what the fuss was all about
You had a real good time
The thought it blows your mind
No point in trying to figure it all out
And the words they start to form
No longer are you torn
And all you want to do is sing and shout

Repeat Chorus

We may never come this way again
At least we know we left as real good friends

Repeat Chorus
