Zebra and Hive are "CPU friendly"!...the (awesome) makers of Diva, Zebra etc. (Not exactly what we can call CPU friendly plugins.)

Why don't you consider buying laptop with proper cpu instead of complaining?Spip wrote: In this case, I see 3 source of potential problems : modelling, drums with cymbals and their long decay and... the (awesome) makers of Diva, Zebra etc. (Not exactly what we can call CPU friendly plugins.)

FWIW, the decay length of physically modeled drum instruments - at least with the way we do it - has no impact on CPU consumption. The model always does the same cyclic roundtrip.Spip wrote: In this case, I see 3 source of potential problems : modelling, drums with cymbals and their long decay and...

Where did you see a complaint ?david.beholder wrote:Why don't you consider buying laptop with proper cpu instead of complaining?Spip wrote: In this case, I see 3 source of potential problems : modelling, drums with cymbals and their long decay and... the (awesome) makers of Diva, Zebra etc. (Not exactly what we can call CPU friendly plugins.)
With any other synth if you increase the number of voices playing at the same time, you ask more to the CPU. That's all. With a drums, just count how many instruments can sound simultaneously ? More than 8 easily... And for a drummer, the latency has to be pretty low. They are not keyboardists playing long pads...

FWIW, to be clear, I'm highly interested in this drum synth. My first job in music was drummer...

Get yourself computer with descent CPU and nightmares of Diva eating all your CPU power would never bother you again.

Great to see someone who have so much pleasure to read. I also have some readings for youdavid.beholder wrote:Spip wrote:Where did you see a complaint ?

I think it could be a great idea to put this last sentence (to NikitaJ, this time) in your signature. So much time saved for something more interesting than spending invaluable time posting useful advices to some ignorant newbies...
I didn't take the time to go further, that comes from the first page of your profile...
And, last but not least, to close this nice reading party : no better than the main page of Diva (you have to go to the bottom end of the page, though. Not a problem for an avid reader like you... )
Cheers
Enough off topic. Back on track :
A drum synth made by u-he, with almost no latency would be a dream for me and probably for a lot of people !

It's really hilarious you quoted message that in full shows that u-he plugins are not in the top of CPU demand.Spip wrote: __________________

So think that actually name of your "reading party" should be called "out of context quotes reading party".david.beholder wrote:Heavier than anything by U-he? Wow are they emulating on electron streams levelchk071 wrote: Give it the ultimate stress test, and try Diversion.
And yes, I'm being consistent in my advises to CPU complainers
Look your last message doesn't bring any value to "ignorant newbies" - don't cover your hypocrisy by public needs. Last post is your personal vendetta of some kind and it's decreasing SNR.
Get better/pay more money for CPU is good advise so "ignorant newbies" wouldn't hit performance problems, spend time complaining about them, read unnecessary comments like yours above i.e. increase SNR.

While waiting for Urs to spend all his attention to create a fantastic u-he drum machine - I spent a large part of the summer experimenting with Diva to see how far you can take it for drums. As it turns out - Diva is really competent for making analog type of drum sounds. It really got a style and vibe of its own.
Here are two examples.
The first is Diva drum sounds + other sounds, and the second is just the clean drums from Diva.

Bumping an old thread I know, but still
Was wondering if anyone had succeeded in replicating convincingly the original 808 bass drums (not talking about the oversaturated trap one) with Bazille ? Every now and then I give it a try (and have been doing so on and off for years tbh) but never really manage to.
I've discarded using sinewaves and have been experimenting with resonant filters and enveloppes. Getting somehow in the ballpark but not close enought though.
Cheers !

Would love to hear it, and even better, to know how you did
Cheers !
I love the tone of Bazille so, so much, pretty convinced one could impersonate this specific kick drum with it... but I'm not there yet. I've always loved the 808, no matter how cliché, and both Zeb' and Baz' are perfect candidate to dial that sound and then expand and build on / deviate from toward new sonic territories.

So here's the preset. The MMap1 modulating the phase of OSC1 introduces a tiny bit of randomness to the click at the beginning of each note. Adjust OSC1 Phase to get a more exaggerated effect or uncheck OSC1 Reset to make it completely random. I used v-slope envelopes for amplitude and pitch though I suppose you could get even more accurate with MSEG's. For comparison of the oscillator waveform and envelopes I mostly used Goldbaby's most neutral 808 samples as a reference and also compared against the Roland Cloud 808. Obviously this will need a ton of processing to sound anything close to anything you've ever heard on any commercial record but it's pretty darn close to the raw source material everybody was using back in the day.
