As I felt very comfortable with this style (wasn't too foreign for me) I am going to try to do a whole album in this style for upload. It seems the site wants between 10 and 12 tracks to make an album. The difficult part will be deciding which song to lead with as that's the one that has to grab them right away.
Also, what el-bo said makes sense. 3 months is nothing. In fact, I'm going to take the rest of 2019 as "prep time" for my new career. Then, in 2020, that's when I will come out in full force marketing myself and trying to get placed. I'm going to give it at least a full solid year before I make any decisions on 2021.
I'm really looking forward to the next 17 months.

Keeping with the theme, this is my 2nd track. Same overall atmosphere but different melody and arrangement. I paid very careful attention to dynamics on this one. I can see this having many uses, especially for documentary work. But I'll let you all decide. Again, please be brutally honest.

Yeah, I have to admit that I'm surprised at how helpful people have been. I guess once I stopped being a horses ass I'd find that not everybody is, well, like the forum trolls. And yes, I plan to do just that...ignore them. Report them if they cross the line, but ignore them.vurt wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 4:32 pm ill get to the tracks in a bit...

I find the percussion, all of it, in both tracks to be bothersome. I don't feel it fits and that you are using it to fill in where your 'pop' sense feels something needs to be. Still too busy for me. Also, I would like more time to absorb the opening atmosphere of each piece. There are chord changes (pop induced again) that happen too quickly at the starts. "Let go Luke"

Thanks for your feedback. There are no chords in either piece therefor can be no chord changes. So I'm not exactly sure what you're hearing.Morgaxx wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 5:07 pm I find the percussion, all of it, in both tracks to be bothersome. However, I will make a note that you don't like the percussion and that the tracks are too busy.

Only thing I'd change from this track is that harsh crash at 0:56. And generally all those harshies.. Reversed ones are fine but that CHRASSHHHHH kinda breaks the mood. A gong would be more appropriate and would support the mood.
Gong hit I was thinking at 0:34 seconds.

So I think I know what you're looking for.Morgaxx wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 5:20 pm Without the perc they would not be too busy, for me that is.
1. Long drone with a change in pitch maybe every 15 seconds or so.
2. No percussion.
Well, wouldn't be much of a track and I doubt anybody would have any interest in it, but maybe I'll try one track like that.

So you don't like the crash cymbals. Noted. Yeah, I'll replace the harsh ones with soft and/or reverse crashes. Not sure how I feel about the gongs but maybe I'll try that too.Distorted Horizon wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 5:21 pm![]()

only thing id maybe change is the melodic motif sound, something softer.
but that's a personal preference.
otherwise, sounding good so far, you seem to be fairly comfortable working in this direction.
listening to people like toonertik (and others) who have had experience with production music, well you couldn't ask for a better stroke of luck
onwards and upwards

Oh I do, but in this track some similar sound that isn't too harsh but more like mysterious, would fit better
*edit*
Not saying that this version would be bad or anything. I just suggest respectfully that you'd A/B that crash and gong with a thought "which would fit better to the mood and mystery".

Solid second effort! Fits perfectly with the first, sets a mood, etc. I'm actually pleasantly surprised, given your pop background, that you've nailed this form of minimalism
I kinda agree about the percussion, mainly the crashes. Maybe the reversed are ok (even try effecting them more), or experiment with similar instrumentation, like chimes, etc.:
At some point each choice is a matter of personal taste, and again, the important thing is you've gotten the mood down and nailed the minimalism that's appropriate (not for all library music - judging from what I've heard - but for the direction this set is going for). I think submitted as-is even, the powers that be might be inclined to say "we like it, just replace the cymbals". They don't kill the track, they are just probably the weakest (least necessary?) component.
At some point, even without forum feedback, you'd probably come to the same conclusion by "putting the track away" a few days, and coming back to it, just listening critically. After working a track, I think we get to used to what's there, and it's harder to change until we get away from it a bit (true probably with all art, but we're luckier than watercolor painters!)

Given that I work on pop tracks for a week or more and this track for a few hours, I'm nowhere near being "used" to it, so I have no problem changing things. Especially since we're talking about what I would call minor incidentals.JoeCat wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2019 5:36 pm Solid second effort!
