The whole point is that you can only do the update if you register in the vmanagement in avenger with your license and won't have access to download the dmg or exe file on your computer. And if you are new customer buy 1.4.10 register and then do the updates so only people that pay and register have access to the updates but not the dmg or exe files just update make Avenger update by itself if you are register. so even the crack versions won't get this updates since they are not register in the vmanagement.

If you have time to torrent 64GB of sounds, you have way too much time on your hands. That also makes you a target if the dev wants to go after you (and some do).

You won't be able to do this and that's the whole point on making Avenger update online with your account on the vmanagement

Not trying to be funny but how much harder or time consuming is it to download 64gb of an automatic process? a one click process.tony10000 wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 9:51 pm If you have time to torrent 64GB of sounds, you have way too much time on your hands. I won't get into the rights and wrongs, people will do what they have to do in order to enjoy their hobby. Personally I prefer to support a good dev.

Bad idea. That excludes another whole part of the customers and one of the real advantages of using a keyfile at all.

Eh... I can think of ways to circumvent this and I'm not even very good with computers.100tifiko wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 10:48 pm The whole point is that you can only do the update if you register in the vmanagement in avenger with your license and won't have access to download the dmg or exe file on your computer. The only thing this would do is inconvenience people who might want to roll back an unstable update.

Not if all the folders are encrypted with your access license and the only run on with the same encrypted version and licenseRazzia wrote: Wed Aug 14, 2019 11:33 pmEh... I agree with others: the keyfile method itself isn't the problem but your own weak implementation is. Just overthink it and give it a go. So many keyfile protected plugins don't have problems with being cracked, either because the crack doesn't work (or at least only a short period of time until a delayed check kicks in) or because they don't see pirates as lost money but calculatable risc. uhe the is best example for that tactics as well as "turning priates into customers" like he likes to say. Though fabfilter can easily be cracked they're running a very successful business because they care for their exisiting customers (look at the updates for old plugins) and make their products affordable (by personal discounts the more you've bought). I htink there's more to fighting piracy than just an intrustive copy protection which alone didn't stop any product piracy so far. Anyways don't hurt your existing customers now.

I think that any plugin that costs more than $150 USD is going to be a big target for piracy. The more it costs, the bigger the target. Most companies build losses due to piracy into their pricing model. However, it is wrong to conclude that people that download pirated software would actually buy it, especially if the price is more than they can afford.
Those companies that take intrusive measures to protect their IP with things like dongles automatically reduce their market-size due to consumer resistance, resulting in less potential revenue. So, while you can better protect your IP, you may lose revenue in the long run.

It is logical to switch protection, but please do not go for ilok and elicenser. ilok is quite a hassle for users, has a shitty system service running and high transfer fees. The website looks straight from 1995. elicenser dongle quite often goes defective, and afaik it can drastically slow down the software. then it may interfere with older steinberg software or so. Also using a dongle is extremely annoying regarding mobility.
