Linux Mint19.04_x64 - Wine 4.0.1 - MCompleteBundle problems during install

Hi,

I would like to try the MCompleteBundle demo on my system, but when I install it with wine, one message it showed in the first step during the installation:

Could not initialize the GUI subsystem.
Error: Not styles are available. Please reinstall the software.

How I fix it?

I own the complete bundle and run all Melda plugins w/o problems. I did that in Linux Mint KDE for quite some time. Then LM decided to drop KDE so I looked elsewhere and luckily I found Xubuntu which am now using. Xfce is so much more nicer to use than the bulky KDE which for some unknown reason I thought I absolutely needed.

Anyways, never had any problem in installing Melda plugins in Both LM KDE 17 and 18 and the current Xubuntu 18.04.

I use wine-4.5 (Staging) with linvst from git circa January 2019. The linvst author has put a patch to run Melda plugins and I think he had to remove it. Anyways I keep a copy of everything and intend to profit to the maximum of the LTS aspect of Xubuntu 18.04 and never upgrade except for security aspects.

I'd like to help, but have never seen this problem. Vojtech could probably say why it happens and that might give a good hint.

BTW, you do not mention which version of Wine you are using and, even though not important at this stage, the VST bridge you will be using.

to better understand: linux mint 19.04 Cinnamom is GNOME based: is this why Melda plugins don't work? All those who will use GNOME based systems in the future be unable to install/use MELDA plugins? Instead Xubuntu 18.04 LTS is KDE based and in this case Melda plugins works?
Does Melda fix this problem?

The last Linux Mint 19.2 Xfce is KDE compatible.... do you think this could help me?

Xubuntu is using Xfce. The Linux Mint I used previously were of the KDE type. I do not know about Gnome as I do not use it. Is it related to the problem ? I don't know. Maybe you can try with Xubuntu, maybe as a dual boot or maybe as a live CD/USB.

Does Melda fix this problem?

Vojtech has nothing to do with this. We can see it's not a problem on Melda's side sinc eit runs fine on other distros. And secondly, Melda does not support Linux.

I of course have no idea. Better to try, although you could try with Xubuntu first, available from the Cannonical web site.

Again, Melda has nothing to do with this.

linvst is the easiest way, with wine-staging, to get Windows plugins running. Have you tried with other Windows VST ? For instance, have you tried with Voxengo free plugins ?

I managed to overcome the problem .... i forgot to install the truetype font in my system (Linux Mint 19.2_x64 Cinnamom 4.2.3, Kernel version 4.15.0-54-generic ) (in the Melda page is indicated....) when I installed the truetype font, finally the setup starts!!!

BUT I have not already installed them because first I would like to understand hov to make/install and configure the LinVST3 bridge.... I understand that the procedure to install it is similar to LinVST but I don't understand how i make it....
can someone help me?

I do not use VST3, so I can't tell. Everything I use are regular VSTs and they all work fine. If VST3 would bring in more features they I could bang my head on the wall for a couple of minutes trying to make it work ... but that would depend on the new features I will be getting by switching to VST3. So far as I understand it, a VST3 brings no additional feature compared to its regular VST equivalent. For instance, a VST3 reverb will not offer more reverb types or more parameters than its VST counterpart.

64 bit of internal audio resolution AND the resizable GUI is the main reasons why I switced to vst3... there will be a reason if ALL THE AUDIO WORLD goes from that part, right? But each of us is free to move as he pleases. Steinberg has removed from long time the vst/vst2 SDK
