I'm not sure "most people" prefer fuzzy FM to clean FM. You can "fuzzy-up" the clean FM, but you can't clean up fuzzy FM.

BTW Hive includes wavetables with bit-reduction included e.g. "Smashed FM.uhm". If you want more subtle crush, change the last line from
Wave "round(2*x)/2"
to e.g.
Wave "round(20*x)/20"
and save the .uhm file under a different name

It's nice to have options. I mostly use FM synthesis in psytrance context for various metallic sounds with some inharmonic content.

"Smashed FM" seems a good starting pint for that, btw.

I guess I can make my own wavetables for Hive from sounds recorded from other synths. Hope my tiny brain will somehow cope with scirpting :)
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

I have the suspicion that Hive will master inharmonic content just fine. In a few months or so.

Oooh.. a teaser?!

Still a bit too early to get more specific I think :clown:

Oh. If the boss has good feelings, I have them too :)
Thanks for revealing great news :)

It isn't FM though. I looked into that. Many of the optimisations I wrote for Hive are extremely counter-indicative of FM. It's possible, sure, but it will cost extra CPU while at the same time making the code less maintainable. I would probably need to restructure a lot to make it future proof :-|

However, the stuff we're currently experimenting with pairs well with wavetable synthesis and adds a whole lot of good grit and inharmonic frequencies into the voices. At the same time it may introduce more complexity into Hive than we're prepared to take on. This stuff may very well end up becoming a Zebra3 module. Or both, where Hive gets a tailored version which isn't too crazy.

Something like Zebra's Osc FX but a bit different? :)

How about the Zebra HZ update with Diva filter modules being integrated into the 4 lanes, etc?

Yep, just checked: Still too early. What we wish to announce we can only announce after something else is announced. Which hasn't been announced yet.

I wonder if April 10 is the magic day? 🤔 😁
