But I also own Cubase and Studio Pro and I have just tried both to see if they can do this. I booted Cubase, recorded four bars, tried to highlight an area, and no go. I then tried Studio One, and can confirm it does this with ease. Just highlight the required area and drag and drop below the track. It then creates a new track with the clip.
To my experience as I helped a friend in his studio, Cubase does this very well. But you have to start edit mode, it has a learning curve to master all those modes of operation. Then, you will be quite fast, using keyboard shortcuts.
There is also color-coded pitch correction. It will analyze, then show exact and actual pitch, and you can pitch-move any segments of the vocal or whatever it is. There is a "new version" mannerism, to keep the track consolidated.

Yeah, the range selection feature lets you do this ... (1 minute 23 seconds into the video)

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to do what I'm after, I just want to be able to swipe across a section of audio in a clip, in order to change the gain. At the moment it seem like I have to split the clip at the desired section to make it a separate clip, then adjust the gain. Unless I'm missing something in the range tool operation. Cheers

I can see how that would take weeks and weeks and weeks to do, but nowhere near as long as adding an automation track for the volume.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.
