Hello, I want to get a midi controller keyboard to work with mulab. Has anyone any ideas on what works best or has anyone used komplete kontrol or minilab mkll with mulab?

Post

No controller have pre-made bindings in Mulab. Every controller will have to manually be bound. I use a Korg NanoKontrol2 and after setting up bindings, it works like a charm.

Binding get set up like shortcuts. In M8.1.5 and prior this is done via the edit shortcuts menu. in M8.1.6 (current beta version), you can hit Alt+S to assign any context menu that can be mapped to a shortcut directly in the menu.

There's no OSC or MPE support directly, only MIDI.

Hope this helps,

Every MIDI keyboard works fine with MuLab. Assigning knobs to parameters also goes very quick. And as dakkra says it's indeed also possible to map certain MIDI actions to functions like play, record, etc.

You can also use a mouse in your right hand to hover & focus, and a Magic Trackpad in your left to change parameters. Very fast with modules.

Hi,
in case you prefer a "Mini"-Controller-Keyboard: I recently bought M-Audio Keystation Mini32 MK3 and it works perfectly with Mulab. But I can agree: Every Midi-Controller should work with Mulab. About Mini-Controller Keyboards: I tried several , but I like Keystation Mini32 MK3 the most: The keys are good responding - not too soft and not too hard. You can set several velocity curves, and these curve- settings remain after switching off. And- last not least: You can define octave or half-tone transposition switches with the controller itself! I tried controllers which needed a software editor to change these settings everytime you had to transpose.

I can recommend the said Arturia MiniLab, or the Arturia Keystep, which have really good keys for such a small and inexpensive keyboard. If you have very small space, the M-Audio Keystation which Brausbaer has recommended is good as well. Not quite the same level regarding the keys though.

Is it possible to use a controller knob for tempo changes and changing the grid size? There are separate shortcuts to increase and decrease, but I'm hoping to use a single pot for this. If I map a knob to increase the tempo then turning the knob either clockwise or counter-clockwise will increase the tempo. I'm trying to set it up so that turning clockwise will increase, and counter-clockwise will decrease. Thanks!
