Congrats! Great news.wagtunes wrote: Mon Sep 02, 2019 1:59 am FYI, I just signed the contract with the group. I have now actually become a member of the group itself. They are so impressed with how prolific a writer I am that they want me as part of the team. The terms are incredible. I'd be insane not to accept. A couple of points I had issues with and were rewritten to my satisfaction. Honestly, I couldn't be happier.

Thanks Frantz. Believe it or not, you've been a big inspiration to me. You've always shown your support and that means a lot.Frantz wrote: Mon Sep 02, 2019 2:55 amCongrats! Now, I have a lot of work to do. They're going to be sending me a crap ton of lyrics that they can't seem to come up with music for.
This should be fun.

I am sure you can do it. Have fun and enjoy the process.wagtunes wrote: Mon Sep 02, 2019 3:01 am Now, I have a lot of work to do. They're going to be sending me a crap ton of lyrics that they can't seem to come up with music for.

I find the snare on the sexy adventure to be way too distracting. Generally, I have some issue of some sort with the drums in most of the tracks. This snare though
I agree with the better piano comment earlier. Perhaps using the 'best' piano software does not itself equal the best piano tone for a piece. Maybe that 'best' software has another tone, better suited. Reverbs I would agree. Way back I found the cricket track to be somewhat annoying, Those crickets distracted me, especially when the loop becomes apparent (pretty quickly). It seems the sample was placed end to end. Chirps quickly fade in and chirp a bit, then builds in chirpiness then dies out. Those crickets distarcted me, especially when the loop becomes apparent. Details man, details!
No comment otherwise as you asked only for concrete points to possibly act upon.

Thanks. The downside is, there will no longer be a tribute CD containing just my songs. The album they're working on starting in January, and planned to be released towards the end of the year, will contain one of my songs and the remainder will be songs that I've contributed to in some capacity, either in providing additional arrangement, keyboard parts and/or lyrics/music. The plus side to that is royalties will be distributed equally among all the band members.vurt wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2019 8:06 pmwoah!Frantz wrote: Mon Sep 02, 2019 2:55 amCongrats! They sent me their income from their last album. It's modest by industry standards but enough for me to possibly earn low 4 figures in total. Since I'm not in this for the money, that's gravy on the turkey. I'm just happy to be a working musician.
This is my first contract in 29 years. The other one amounted to nothing. So let's say I'm cautiously optimistic. I have however already submitted 3 pieces of work. One is a string arrangement for one of their songs and the other two consists of music written to the group leader's lyrics. I haven't heard back yet on any of the above.
Unfortunately, I can't post any of this work here without their permission. So there is a chance you guys won't hear any of this until the album is released. And at that, you'll probably have to buy it.
Oh well, I guess I gotta take the bad with the good.

there is no downside, you are "in the business".

and damn right ill buy the album. if it goes full release ill even go to brick and mortar store and inform the cashier i know the lyricist

Yes, and it is a business. I'm starting to realize that. Sometimes there are things you have to do that aren't all fun and games.vurt wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2019 8:25 pm there is no downside, you are "in the business".

but yes, concessions have to be made if you want to make it.
only you can decide at what level you say "no. that's too far".

if nothing else, think of it as a huge "eff you!" to everyone who said you got nothing!

You know what? I don't want to go there. I'm so tired of the negativity. I just want to put it all behind me and get on with this next part of my life. I do know one thing, the group dynamic is going to change drastically with my coming aboard. Not that I'm so great or anything but their music, up to now, has been very basic rock and roll. In fact, the group leader describes himself as a simple person who writes simple songs. So my, slightly crazy, music is going to shake things up a bit.vurt wrote: Tue Sep 03, 2019 8:41 pm if nothing else, think of it as a huge "eff you!" to everyone who said you got nothing!![]()
There is no telling what effect this is going to have on their fan base, located entirely in Europe and Asia. They may or may not like the new stuff. Only time will tell.

This is the one song (I've already posted it here so it's okay) that's entirely mine that they're going to be recording and putting on the album. They say it fits closest to the theme for this coming album.
